Food For Today – Closing the Gap
A Community Food Rescue Movement
Every single day, thousands of pounds of perfectly good food are thrown away by grocery stores — while families in our community struggle with hunger.
Food For Today exists to close that gap.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing unsold but edible food from grocery stores and delivering it directly to people in need. Unlike traditional food rescue efforts that rely only on food banks, our model is different:
• Store-Level Support: We provide trained staff and volunteers who work directly with store departments (deli, produce, bakery, meat, grocery) to identify and collect donations.
• Standing in the Gap: When food banks can’t pick up every day, we step in to ensure no good food is wasted.
• Community-Based Distribution: We deliver food directly to churches, senior centers, housing sites, and grassroots
organizations — bringing food closer to the people who need it most.

Our Value Proposition
• For food banks: We expand their reach, fill coverage gaps, and deliver measurable impact without stretching their resources.
• For grocery stores: We reduce food waste, lower disposal costs, and support ESG goals at no added cost.
• For families: We provide consistent, dignified access to fresh food in their own communities.

Scalability & Potential Impact
We launched a beta pilot at a single grocery store and in just 90 days:
• Rescued over 10,000 pounds of food (513 boxes donated)
• Supplied 2 food pantries and 1 senior housing site
• Built strong support from store management and employees
Now, we’re ready to scale. With your support, we can:
• Expand to multiple stores across Hoffman Estates and surrounding cities
• Train and deploy more volunteers
• Strengthen our logistics, reporting, and delivery systems
• Bring healthy food directly to thousands of additional households

Why Your Support Matters
Your donation doesn’t just feed families for a day — it builds the system that will keep food flowing every day.
• $50 funds the rescue and delivery of 250 pounds of food
• $100 provides volunteer training and pickup supplies for a new store
• $500 supports logistics and distribution for an entire week
• $1,000 helps us expand to an additional store
Together, we can reduce waste, fight hunger, and build stronger communities.
