Everest Base Camp for DFG
Hi everyone. Hope, Christina, and I are setting out on a hike of a lifetime. At the end of April, we start our 14 day trek through the Himalayans to reach Everest Base Camp. All three of us are experienced hikers, have put a great deal of training forward, and it would mean the world to us to raise money for an organization that would truly help the Nepalese females.
Our goal with your donation is to benefit Days for Girls International, and any amount will help make an impact.
Days for Girls International is an award-winning NGO that works to shatter stigma and limitations associated with menstruation for improved health, education and livelihood outcomes. To date, Days for Girls has reached more than 2.1 million women and girls in 144 countries on 6 continents with quality, sustainable menstrual care solutions and health education.
In Nepal, getting your period means 'impurity'. These are beliefs rooted deep in hinduism. When a female begins her cycle, in some western parts of Nepal, she is subjected to stay in a shed for the entirety of her period. This practice is known as "Chhaupadi". While being secluded, this means that young females are missing out on attending school, they are exposed to an abundance of health consequences, and sometimes left in dangerous conditions.
By donating to this organization you are contributing to the creation and distribution of DfG kits and of course the education needed for them. These kits includes a waterproof shield, two absorbent liners, underwear, a carry pouch, care and use guide, and soap and washcloths for sanitation. These kits costs roughly $5 USD per individual to make and last them for up to several years. These tools give young women the chance to be apart of society and break stigma.
