Community Arts Center

The CAC engages a large and diverse community in learning about and participating in the arts. In this lively mix, kids play a vital role – perhaps one of the most important – in the health of the Center and the community. Kids represent the next generation of artists in our communities. Kids prompt new family engagement in our programs. Kids inspire our outreach partnerships – our inclusive enrichment opportunities throughout the community. And they inspire, as well, our special training for teachers to foster arts access.

This year, please join us with a Giving Tuesday donation celebrating and supporting our remarkable programs for Children and Youth. Each contribution will be used to directly support our wonderful array of kids’ programs – afterschool classes, weekend programs, our variety of summer programs, outreach with a range of community partners as well as on-site, and family and multi-generational workshops and events.

The Community Arts Center has been Bringing Art to Life since 1948, serving Delaware County and the Philadelphia metropolitan region. For the last 55 years, we’ve thrived in our present elegant and historic home, adapting it for contemporary use while engaging our large and diverse community in learning about and participating in the arts. The CAC buildings were built in 1889, and many additions and renovations have been completed over the years. We undertake new projects each year in order to preserve and update the campus so that it will continue to serve the community for generations.

Here are a just few examples from the present moment:

- Recently, the parking lots were re-sealed and repaired, an $11,000 cost.

- An exterior painting and carpentry repair project is underway with a $10,000 budget that we anticipate expanding to $15,000.

- During the week of Thanksgiving a repair will be done to one of the large stone lintels on the historic façade, at a cost of $14,000

Looking back, it’s amazing how our community has supported the need to maintain our historic facility – even during the recent pandemic. Individuals and foundations have joined to support projects ranging from key scheduled maintenance and extensive kiln replacement to a new studio and studio upgrades.

Looking forward, our essential maintenance and upgrade priorities continue, of course, even as we continue building on recent program successes by increasing program quality, variety, and access for new audiences. This is an exciting time, when your gift can help assure a balanced and sustainable future for CAC. The CAC is turning 75!

This year, our Giving Tuesday campaign launches an extraordinary celebration. The Community Arts Center has been Bringing Art to Life since 1948, serving Delaware County and the Philadelphia metropolitan region with a broad spectrum of cultural experiences. Amazingly, we’re now poised to celebrate our 75th year of service to our surrounding communities!

CAC’s milestone 2023 program-year will be commemorated as “CAC 75!”. And in keeping with the significance of this occasion, we’re announcing our special “CAC 75!” anniversary campaign now and continuing it throughout the year of 2023.

We look forward to opportunities for special enhancements of many of the programs you like the most. Your gifts at this time will help launch planning and enable some of our program enrichments, and they will strengthen our “Building Creativity” facility projects program.

In overview, we’re looking forward to a wonderful year of celebration! A particular highlight, of course, will be the special festivities at our Spring Fundraiser Event on April 22nd, 2023, where we’ll expect to re-live some key moments and revisit key turning points for CAC.

For our last 53 years, we’ve thrived in our present elegant and historic home, adapting it for contemporary use while engaging a large and diverse community in learning about and participating in the arts.

This year, please join us with a Giving Tuesday donation celebrating and supporting our remarkable facility. Each contribution will be used to directly support strategic maintenance and renovation of CAC’s very unique one-of-a-kind home. Keeping a property like this maintained and updated requires significant, ongoing investment.

Looking back, it’s amazing how our community has supported the need to maintain our historic facility – even during the ongoing pandemic. Individuals and foundations have joined to support projects ranging from essential maintenance and studio upgrades to new air filtration. Larger recent projects have included the new wood-fired kiln, as well as roofing and painting projects securing the integrity of the wonderful Smith Court building.

Looking forward, our essential maintenance and upgrade priorities continue, of course, even as we continue to work to restore CAC’s staff, programming, and events to pre-pandemic levels.
