Children's Community School: Climbing High and Digging Deep
The Children's Community School is a non-profit pre-school and early childhood education center in West Philadelphia.

We believe that kids and adults should be supported and cherished to honor their whole selves, ignite curiosity, and learn through play. We believe all families should be welcomed and celebrated. We believe in mud puddles and block towers, in silly dances and in story times, and in climbing high and in digging deep.

But we need your support. Each year, we rely on fundraising to help limit tuition increases as much as possible for families while still providing respectful compensation for our extraordinary staff, maintaining our beautiful space, and participating in public subsidy programs like PHLPreK that undervalue the costs of high-quality early childhood education.

2024 brought significant internal growth for CCS as our staff and community worked together carefully to invest in stronger relationships, clearer communications, and more sustainable systems to support the school's future. Together, we've increased benefits for our staff, provided tuition subsidies and scholarships for families in need, and begun the crucial work of reckoning with CCS's role in serving and reflecting our community.

We are so excited for what's next for CCS, and we need your help to keep going and growing. Every dollar counts towards our goal, and every gift is meaningful and appreciated.

Jarrod's Legacy at Children's Community School
Join us to honor and celebrate Jarrod Fischer Green's legacy at Children's Community School. Jarrod’s leadership and care have grown the school as an institution even as he has also nurtured and taught so many of us, children and adults alike.

In CCS’s tradition for honoring departing directors, your donation will also help establish a new space within the school named in Jarrod’s honor: stay tuned for future singalongs and lots of other fun, learning, and community-building in Jarrod’s Common Room.

Did you know how great Jarrod is?

Jarrod has served as director of CCS since 2016 and will be stepping down from the role in Summer 2023. During his tenure, the school has grown in immeasurable ways. Together, we have

• expanded our curriculum and increased our enrollment;

• deepened and centered our commitments to racial justice, gender inclusion, and economic equity;

• weathered a pandemic, wildfire smoke, and many, many ouchies;

• and enjoyed countless singalongs, storytimes, and moments of shared learning and joy.

And there's so much more ahead of us!

Jarrod is departing the school at a time of rich opportunity and leaves us poised for transformative growth: within the next three years, we will expand the school’s physical campus at 47th and Kingsessing, allowing us to more than double enrollment. Scaling up will allow us to dramatically increase the financial accessibility of the school, providing free and low-cost tuition to roughly 50% of enrolled families via public programs like PHLpreK and PreKCounts. Expanding will also allow us to continue to invest in equitable, thrivable compensation for our extraordinary teachers and staff.

Your support will help us launch this new chapter successfully! This is the first phase of a multi-part campaign aiming to raise $100,000 by Fall 2024 to ensure the success of the expansion and provide a runway for CCS's future growth.

UPDATE 12/26: We have received a matching donation! Today through January 1st, all donations up to $1000 will be DOUBLED!

UPDATE 12/25: Some donations are coming in person instead of online. The total as of today is 102 donations—far past our goal of one donation per child, and awfully close to tying last year's record of 108 donations!

The Children's Community School relies on the generosity and support of our enrolled families, staff, community, and partners. We’re proud of our progressive approach to education, in which children and adults are valued as learners and teachers. We’re also proud of our commitment to putting our social justice values into practice. That’s why we’re asking you to participate in our current giving campaign: The Collective Scholarship Fund.

As a collective, as a community, when we come together we know we can do great things. Great things - great communities - are made up of smaller parts of a whole. Your investment - no matter how small - will make up an important part of The Collective Scholarship Fund. The Scholarship Fund is one way we’re trying to impact the neighborhood; we want our school to be financially accessible to everyone who is interested in attending. Currently, CCS gives financial aid to 20 families, but with your help, that number can be even bigger!
