A Success Story: Stephen’s Journey from Abandonment to Hope

Stephen is a resilient 9-year-old boy living with HIV+, whose journey from abandonment to stability is a shining example of what community support can achieve. In June 2024, Stephen was referred to us by Kikopey Police Station after being found wandering alone, rejected by his mother and family, desperate for safety. Having endured months of instability and neglect, Stephen’s situation underscored the urgent need for safe spaces and care for vulnerable children.

Despite all these challenges, with the unwavering support of our community and the dedicated team at nisria, Stephen’s life has transformed.

Today, Stephen is thriving.

He now lives with his grandmother in a stable home and he is attending school. His smile tells the story of hope rekindled and a future restored.

Stephen’s story is not just his own, it’s a celebration of community unity and the power of collective action. Because we came together, we provided him with:

Enrollment in school, opening doors to education and opportunity

Stephen’s success fuels our passion. He is one of many children whose lives we are committed to changing. Through Kwetu Haven and our community based programs, we strive to support 100 abandoned children like Stephen, offering them care, shelter, education, and the promise of a better tomorrow.
