As a person of color, who often passes for white, I have experienced levels of racism.  So has generations of my family.  But nothing compares to what is being done to our black brothers and sisters, and what has been done for years.  Minorities can not be silent.  We can not stand by.  We need to be active, aware, educated and help in any way we can.

Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. (BLM) is a home to Black folks and our global allies, as we demand a world where Black people are liberated. Founded in 2013 by Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi in response to the acquittal of the man charged with Trayvon Martin’s murder, BLM is a chapter-based, member-led organization with chapters in the U.S., UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate White supremacy and build power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes through its educational and charitable activities. We support the lives of the Black queer and transgender communities, the disabled, those with records, women, and all Black lives along the gender spectrum. We are a group of Assyrians who believe Black Lives Matter. We stand with the Black community in condemning police violence against Black folks. We remember George Floyd, Tony McDade, Breona Taylor, and countless others who have been murdered by police officers and demand accountability.

Assyrians are the indigenous people of the Middle East. As a community that has faced centuries of oppression in our homeland, we understand the importance of standing in solidarity with other communities in their time of need. Police violence and systemic racism against the Black community is a human rights issue that surpasses ethnic and religious affiliations. This is why we stand with Black Lives Matter today and in the future.

Hi friends! Thank you for taking the time to read about my fundraiser :)

I will be riding the entire length of the Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Canal on the same bicycle that transported me across the country in 2015 when raising awareness and funds for young adults affected by cancer.  Today's current events have inspired me to get back on my bike, and raise awareness and fundraise for racial injustice and police brutality.

I will start in Cumberland, MD and head south towards Washington, DC, finishing the journey on Black Lives Matter Plaza. I plan to complete the journey in 2 days for a total of 200 miles. The journey starts on 9/26!

We are living in a broken world. It is time for us to make a difference and put our values of tolerance and pluralism into action. As Ismailis living in North America, we were fortunate to be welcomed into Canada and the United States. As such, it is our obligation to recognize the struggles of our brothers and sisters in the Black community and contribute to their stand for social justice. Our community should step forward, in solidarity with the Black community, and mobilize its social influence and financial resources to demand justice. We must do something. We must act. Now. 

This fundraiser was set up with the purpose of involving Ismailis in the discussion of race and the Black Lives Matter movement. By donating through this platform directly to the Black Lives Matter Foundation, you will know that members of the Ismaili community are helping a valuable cause and will sit on the right side of history. When we needed help fleeing threats of nationalization decades ago, we were supported. It is now our time to be on the giving end of our love and support. We urge all who are financially able to donate either identifyingly or anonymously to this cause as well as spread the message about the Asian-American role in the Black Lives Matter movement. We are not powerless, and together, we can change the world.

For my birthday this year, I created a GoFundMe page so instead of gifts, my family and friends can donate to the nonprofit: Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation. My goal is $1,700 because it's my 17th birthday, but donate whatever you feel comfortable with, anything helps! I'm doing this in honor of Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain, Atatiana Jefferson, Aura Rosser, Stephon Clark, Botham Jean, Philando Castille, Alton Sterling, Trayvon Martin, Emmett Till, and every other black person that has been murdered because of police brutality or white supremacy. Because of the media coverage that's been given to the BLM movement, everyone is getting just a glimpse at what black people have been dealing with for centuries, and it's time for a change. Justice needs to be given to every black life that's been wrongly taken and we all need come together to end racial oppression and violence in this country.

In order to be more active and vocal in the fight against racial oppression and the continued brutality against African-Americans, this summer I would like to raise money in support of the broader Black Lives Matter movement. The Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization dedicated to affirming the lives of all black people.

Throughout the course of 3 months (starting June 1st and ending September 1st), I will be running the length of the New York City Subway system, comprised of 245 miles of route track between its 472 stations. On September 1st, once I have run my 245th mile, I will donate all funds raised through this GoFundMe as well as a dollar for every mile run to the #BlackLivesMatter foundation.

I’d like to encourage you all to donate to help support the cause of racial injustice, fight against police violence, and foster connections between black people and their allies in the fight against anti-black racism.

On Friday June 5th at 1PM EST, medical professionals from across the Greater Philadelphia area will be kneeling for 10 minutes of silent remembrance. We will take the time to reflect on the life of George Floyd and the affects of systemic racism in America. We recognize that racism is a public health crisis that translates into very real medical repercussions. We are here to listen, learn, and uplift. This is our lane.
