Berks Community Cats

Anubis was rescued from a bad situation with his littermates. Berks Community Cats went to location to assess one friendly male cat which had been put outside and was crying. We instead left with many sick and dying kittens. Some of his littermates did not make it, but Anubis overcame parasites and illness.

After a visit with The Vet on Main, it was discovered Anubis has suffered a serious fracture to his pelvis, believed to have been sustained from falling off of a 12-foot ledge. There is a large separation and it must be surgically repaired. He is still a growing kitten.

Anubis has spent his life in foster care… his littermates all having been adopted. He is the sweetest, most affectionate kitten. In his first foster home, he was an escape artist and the only kitten to repeatedly escape his crate to end up in bed with his foster mom overnights or with the children. Despite all of the love, affection, headbutts, and purrs Anubis has to offer, he has not yet had an opportunity to experience what every kitten deserves: his furever home. Getting this surgery allows him to live to experience this.

BERKS COMMUNITY CATS is barely scraping by and is in jeopardy of folding. Giving Tuesday is fast approaching, and we are asking those who have been helped by BCC volunteers to consider a donation. Your financial help is needed now more than ever!

We are currently running cats to a clinic in Willow Grove twice weekly.

The insurance on our transport van is due next month. The premium is $1,200.

Our monthly expenditures include full or partial subsidies to those who cannot afford to spay/neuter their colony cats and pet cats. Our van driver and our clinic coordinator also receive a stipend for every clinic run made. Including gas and tolls, our monthly expenses average a minimum of $3,000.

Berks Community Cats is a 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit and runs solely on donations. We are looking into grants, as well as setting up a payment option for individuals to donate monthly.

Happy New Year! Berks Community Cats group members came up with the idea of a $5 Donation campaign, “5 for Ferals!”

Berks Community Cats TNR Group has 1.3K members. If each member donates $5, we could raise $6,500. That is $6,500 for invaluable stray and feral community cats/ and kittens care and resources.

Let’s recap our 2024 with highlights of all of the good Joe Salender and Berks Community Cats has put out into our community!

It takes a #community!

Berks Community Cats is a community cat health and safety advocate.

We work tirelessly to assure community cats are spayed, neutered, and vaccinated.

We routinely run about 100 cats monthly to and from clinics, provide transportation, and assist those unable to afford this service.

Our 2011 GMC van is vital to our ability to serve, but the transmission has failed after nearly 200,000 miles of service.

We hope to raise enough to cover the transmission repair and a few other odds and ends to keep it roadworthy and comfortable.

Please consider donating to help a local Reading business owner provide veterinary care for the 40+ cats he feeds. Pictures to come. (I will also have photographs every step of the way with this TNR project, as always!)

It is kitten season. This could rapidly become 200 cats. Kittens born outside are victim to the elements, predators, and humans. We can prevent more suffering by providing much needed veterinary care, spay/neuter, and vaccinations for this colony: respiratory infections treated with antibiotics, flea and ear mite relief. Friendly cats and kittens can be rescued…

But we need your help.
