Bay Area Cats

Bay Area Cats urgently needs to fund spay/neuter surgeries for 100 cats in Santa Clara County. Since 2020, most low-cost spay/neuter programs in our area have ended. As a result, cats are breeding out of control—both in homes and on the streets. People want help, but they can’t afford private vet care or access appointments fast enough. The only way forward is prevention through spay/neuter.

The system is beyond capacity.

Without major investment in prevention, the flood of unwanted litters will continue. Shelters are full. Rescues are overwhelmed. Cats, kittens, puppies, and dogs are being turned away from the shelter and dumped or abandoned as a result. There is no more space—only more animals. We can’t adopt or foster our way out of this crisis. We must stop the breeding at its source.

Bay Area Cats is taking action.

Since January 1, 2025, we’ve funded over 500 spay/neuter surgeries—preventing thousands of future births. These include both feral cats and pets of low-income owners who simply couldn’t afford the procedure. But we need your help to keep going.

We need to raise $10,000 now.

This short-term goal will fund two spay/neuter clinic dates and cover the full cost of surgery, vaccines, and microchips for 100 cats. Every single dollar goes directly to these services. This is one of the most impactful ways to help animals right now.

Why it matters:

Cats can reproduce at just 5 months old. One unspayed female and her offspring can lead to over 11,000 cats in five years. Large unmanaged colonies stress communities and ecosystems. Meanwhile, 1,600+ cats are already available for adoption within 50 miles—and many will never find homes.

Spay/neuter is the only sustainable and humane solution.

We need your help to make a difference for the cats in our community.

Hello everyone,

Our names are Taylor and Keith, and we are from Newark in the East Bay, California. Some of you may be aware of the large stray cat colony in the Foxwood Townhomes area. These cats have been living in the complex for the past few years and are continuing to multiply at a rapid rate.

Thankfully, we're receiving support from Bay Area Cats, a non-profit organization that aims to decrease the number of unfixed cats in the community. They have agreed to assist in trapping, fixing and providing care for these kitties, however, it costs around $125 for each cat, and there are around 30 cats we're hoping to help.

With your help, each kitty will receive a spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies and FVRCP), and a flea treatment before being returned to the area they were trapped. Each cat will have an ear tipped to indicate they are fixed.

Spaying/neutering helps reduce the population of stray cats, and has health benefits for the individual cats. It helps reduce the risk of infections and cancers, and decreases reproductive behaviors like urine spraying and fighting. Overall, it helps lead towards a longer, healthier, happier life.

Hi Newhall neighbors!

My name is Ashley and I have had the pleasure of meeting several of you the past few weeks. Many of you wonderful folks have expressed concern about the colony of abandoned cats living off Campbell Ave.

Unfortunately, their previous owner moved out of his business and left the cats behind, which has caused several issues for the neighborhood and compromised the health and safety of these kitties. The cats are not neutered or spayed and will continue to multiply if we don't take action.

The local shelters are completely full and TNR (trap/neuter/release) programs are also booked months in advance.

Luckily, we were able to get the support of Bay Area Cat Rescue to help trap these kitties and get them neutered/spayed. However, spaying/neutering costs about $200 per cat, and there are at least 10 cats (likely more) that we are trying to help.

This cost also includes vaccinations, flea treatment and ear tipping (a visible marker for outdoor cats that are fixed). In addition to keeping the stray cat population low, spaying/neutering dramatically decreases 'mating' behaviors such as yowling, fighting and urine spraying.
