An Ebola outbreak in a remote part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has claimed over one hundred lives and sparked a global health emergency. Americares is working with local nonprofits in the DRC to help prevent the disease's spread through water and sanitation improvements, public health education, and training for health workers on infection prevention, case management, and risk communication. We have a long history responding to Ebola outbreaks, including the 2014-2016 West Africa epidemic that killed over 11,000 people—the deadliest in history. Americares already funds water, sanitation, and hygiene efforts in conflict-affected health centers in North Kivu's Mutwanga Health Zone. An Americares-supported emergency medical team has arrived in #Venezuela to help restore access to care after back-to-back earthquakes devastated communities. The June 24 earthquakes killed more than 3,500 people, injured more than 16,000 and left nearly 18,000 survivors without homes, according to United Nations OCHA. Americares is funding the deployment of a 35-person volunteer team which will provide primary care, essential medications, mental health support and more through a temporary clinic in Caracas.
