Our friends in Peru, where the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word or CCVI have been working in mission for over 50  years, are struggling right now amid heavy rain and resulting flooding – the worst to hit there within the last 20 years. Please consider supporting them with your donations and your prayers right now.

The CCVI ministry to those must vulnerable in Chimbote, a coastal town about 7 hours north of Lima, is in great need. The widespread community damage has placed a toll on our ability to care for patients in our medical clinic and hospice there. Patients are crowding the clinic with medical problems and skin rashes and great concern about dengue, since there is now a great infestation of mosquitos and fleas.

The roof on the house where our Incarnate Word Missionaries live has been leaking “like a great colander,” reports Missionary Anne Catherine Mora, who is from San Antonio and now is living in Chimbote with four other IW missionaries. Pushaq Warmi, the business collective supported by our ministry Women’s Global Connection, is facing damage of homes, schools and difficulties getting the resources their families need.

Our CCVI sisters in Peru report that all roads in and out of Chimbote are cut off because of widespread flooding and damage to bridges and streets. The town only has intermittent electricity. Communication is compromised with no newspapers being printed. Food and water now are in short supply, with costs for staples tripling in Chimbote because of the problems.

In Peru over all at least eight hospitals have been destroyed by flooding and 16 others are uninhabitable, creating a dangerous situation for those injured during the recent historic flooding.

All your donations will go directly to our ministries located in these areas in order to continue helping in this enormous emergency.

We invite you to donate,  and to joins us to help those who need our help right now.

Affected families are being treated at the Incarnate Word Health System Clinic.

The cities have serious damages. The roads are destroyed.

Along the road families have been organized into common pots to receive the donated food.

And the main problem is water. Since, the one that brings them the municipality is not treated and the water of acequia is contaminated many times by feces of the animals. "We have begun to coordinate with the government a medical brigade, because the children have already started with skin allergies and diarrhea.

We keep helping them. To do so we need your help.
