On Wednesday, July 26, after having their home tested for suspect mold, test results revealed that the Carley’s home of 14 years, was no longer safe for them to inhabit.
Increasingly concerning health issues affecting their family—and especially their youngest son, Wesley, who has dealt with chronic illness related to Lyme Disease for the last 10 years—led them to test their home for mold in the first place, despite the absence of water events.
Those tests indicated dangerous and toxic mold-spore levels. The Carleys will be forced to evacuate and find a safe living space; remediate and rebuild their home; dispose of every porous possession from mattresses to sheet music, test repeatedly for mold-spore levels as they rebuild; and continue to make mortgage payment on a home they cannot occupy. Unfortunately, insurance will not cover mold-related issues even in crisis situations like the Carley’s, and the cost of remaking home must come entirely out-of-pocket. The Carleys will lose everything.
And here’s where we come in.
If you’ve ever had the chance to meet the Carley family, or had the privilege of calling them friends, you will know the depth of their hearts for others—compassionate, generous, kind, thoughtful: all of them. As a community, and thus by default, family, it is our privilege to surround these beautiful people and help as much as we are able. The Carleys have always been on the “helping” side of crisis—showing up, offering assistance, and support, and prayer at every turn. And now it’s our turn to extend the same kindness.
