Eliminating Food Deserts

Tax deductible
Please help me with my Eagle Scout project to fight the health problems caused by local food deserts and raise awareness of and provide a solution to the problem. I am partnering With Salvus Center in Gallatin to GROW ROOTS IN THE DESERT.

Salvus Center is a primary care-giver for the working uninsured. Many of the people Salvus Center serves do not live near or have access to grocery stores;  thereby, heightening their risk of food related diseases such as malnutrition and obesity.

This garden will not only provide the produce for people who suffer in food deserts, but will also provide the resources to understand how to provide for themselves through an inexpensive DIY garden plan just like this.  Construction plans for this garden will be shared with anyone who wants them.

Funds raised through this campaign will be used to purchase lumber, soil, and the materials to build fencing and irrigation.

The garden will consist of three raised beds that will each be 4ft wide x 16ft long x 18in tall.  All beds will be supplied with drip line irrigation, a removable fence system and will be planted with herbs, fruits and vegetables from local nurseries.

Plans to build the garden are scheduled for November 17, 2018.

ABOUT ME: My name is Graham Broome.  This project is the last step of earning my Eagle Scout rank. I am passionate about this project because I live in the community Salvus Center serves and have seen the impact they have on the community. My friend was helped by Salvus Center after a car accident and witnessing their support left an impression on me.
I see first-hand the effects of food deserts on the people of my community, and I am committed to helping solve this problem.

Through spearheading this project in partnership with Salvus Center my goal is to lead a campaign that will help to fight the health problems caused by food deserts in Sumner County through a proven and long-term solution that is inexpensive and sustainable.

Thank you in advance for any and all of your support and donations. It means a lot to me and Salvus Center to provide this opportunity to combat a relevant and often overlooked problem in our community.

Thank you, again!
