Community support for Cafe Berlin
$4,521 of $3,500 goal
Can we come together as a community and provide funds to give them that day off?
Owner Eli Gay estimates that $3,000 could pay the staff for a day off and cover what the income would be for a weekday. (I'm going to set the campaign goal for $3,500 to cover GoFundMe fees and processing charges).
Note from Eli:
"Everyone's been so supportive and asking what they can do to help; with offers of benefit shows, coming in to help clean, repairing stuff, lending sound equipment etc. and it's hard to know how to accept people's assistance.
The feeling of being so supported by our community when we needed is an indescribable feeling and we are stronger for it, but now that the dust is settling and we're coming down from the stress/response from getting everything back up and running we're all a bit tired and dealing with the trauma of having our space violated by those that did this to us.
We've had people staying here overnight and I think some of us are dealing better than others with the violation of our space. We're wanting to keep making great food but I think we're all a little scared, sad and some of us havent been sleeping at all….
If we need anything, we'd like a day off…. to do some processing and just to breathe together and take some self care time. I know that sounds maybe a little counterintuitive to running a restaurant…"
^ And that sounds just like the kind of restaurant all of us know and love. Let's come together for Cafe Berlin. Every little bit counts.
Oh - and they're also accepting coffee mug donations. ;)
Columbia is amazing.
A bunch of people have said if we surpass the goal that the additional funds should go towards a security system so we're going to leave the campaign up for a little bit longer. Any extra will go towards the hardware and whatever fees are associated with those systems.
Thank you again for all your support. #LoveWhereYouLive
Here's a message from Eli:
We're very thankful to everyone who donated to our campaign. Because of your generosity, love and support we're going to be taking Friday the 20th off this week. We're still working out our schedule for the day but as of now we will be doing some yoga with Liz Klug at Yoga Sol and afterward we will be spending a bit of time together to reflect on what happened on Sunday and how we can move through it and be a stronger community for it. We may go on a hike if the weather is nice.
There has been a lot of talk here at the cafe about not feeling safe in our cafe since this break-in and any extra funds will be going to help purchase a security system.
You're all rad and we'll be back at it Saturday the 21st with brunch all weekend. Our friends at Rose Music Hall will be hosting a benefit show on Sunday the 22nd and you can find more info on our Facebook page once the details are worked out.
Love and gratitude,
Everyday for Good
