Bridging the gap...

Having spent the last 9 years here in Brunswick, I’ve seen how this town can rally.  And there is one person in particular that is so often the front runner.

She may not be a firefighter, or a first responder in the traditional sense, but when someone needs something, you can bet that she is the first to respond.

Coordinating supplies.  Coordinating people.  Driving all over the sun to pick up something, anything, that would help someone else.

I’ve watched the sacrifices she’s willing to make to ensure that those around her, her community, is met with love and friendship.

She’s been unwaveringly passionate about this town.  About helping her fellow businesses.

Beth Johnson and her husband Scott would give the shirt off their back, likely literally, to help someone in this community.

And now, they are the ones in a position of needing help.

The recent fire downtown left 3 buildings unfit for occupancy at this time.  I’m thankful that we have programs like Beacon, and that so many people stepped up to help these families that lost their homes and their stuff.

But, while Beacon is able to help the victims of the recent fire in downtown, there is no help for the Business that occupied that space.

Beth and Scott lost their livelihood and their ONLY source of income on Sunday morning.  The income that provides them with housing, food to eat, and medical bills to pay.

Their goal is to operate out of a food truck interim until they can find a new space, spend them money for new inspections, and possibly new equipment, and ultimately return to the downtown Brunswick scene.

A goal that could take months to accomplish.  Months without anything coming in to keep a roof over their heads or food on the table.

Many have asked how they can help, and I’m hopeful I’ll get to see that fighting Brunswick spirit as we rally to help Beth and Scott bridge the gap between here and rebuilding.
