Brittany is a homeless student

A few weeks ago while driving to a meeting I was listening to KQED, an NPR affiliate out here in San Francisco.  It was a story about the number of community college students who are in fact homeless.  A couple of people in particular they profiled were two girls here in San Francisco,  Brittany and Ebony, both currently homeless while going to college.  This story broke my heart.  When I got home that day I emailed KQED to see how I could help.  KQED helped me connect with Brittany and Ebony.  I am starting a Gofundme campaign for each of them to help get them off the streets, provide some much needed stability and help pay for, and keep them, in school.

This is Brittany's story.

To say Brittany Jones has had a difficult life is an understatement.  Her father was fatally shot when she was just born and her mother died when she was 5.  She spent years in foster care, and since age 19 she has essentially been homeless; bouncing between relatives, group homes and shelters.  She is currently homeless while attending community college, Laney College in Oakland and is unemployed,  trying to find a job.  While she has some help with a food stipend for the campus cafeteria, that’s her only guarantee of food on a daily basis.  When night comes, she never knows where she will end up sleeping.  She has to impose herself on friends, which makes here uncomfortable, where she ends up sleeping on their floors or couches, but its better than sleeping on 24 hour buses or going to an all-night Carl’s junior, which she does occasionally.  This is someone who needs our help.  Please donate anything you can and if you don’t have the means to help financially, please pass her story on to your friends who might be able to help her.

Meantime, I will be working with Brittany’s school counselor to help properly set up the best way to get her these funds.

Thank you for your kind attention

Note: in the past few days a kind KQED listner has offered Brittany a temporary place to stay.  In addition to funds, she is in immediate need for sheets, blankets, towels, pillows, school supplies, kitchen knives and supplies, a bathroom rug and a dresser.
