Help Bring Lake Louise Back!

HELP US GET OUR LAKE BACK!!!

On Saturday Oct 17, 2015 the beautiful Lake Louise, located in the Red Lane Subdivision was drained of all of its water and memories.
Why did this happen?!  Lake Louise is fed by a tributary stream on one end and has an outlet at the other end by way of a culvert that goes under Mountain View Road.   A vertical drain culvert keeps the lake at a certain level so it doesn’t flood the road or neighboring properties. It drains into a horizontal culvert that goes under the road and empties into a spillway on the other side.  At some point on the morning of October 17th that culvert gave way, and Lake Louise drained dry.  We learned that the heavy rains and flood levels of the lake were more than the old, out dated culvert could handle.

Lake Louise is a beloved fishing spot, a place to enjoy wildlife, an occasional swimming pool and a constant source of visual pleasure for all of its residents.  So many of our children and grand children caught their first fish in Lake Louise.  It is a part of our community and now is a dry mud pit.

After many conversations with numerous county officials it has been determined that any repair, maintenance and up keep is the sole responsibility of the home owners, neighbors, families and friends who love and enjoy Lake Louise.

Which is why we need YOUR help!!!

Not only is Lake Louise a beautiful place to call home, but its loss comes with other consequences.

The results of losing Lake Louise could be bigger than expected.

Lake Louise is one of Powhatan county’s 72 dry hydrants, which are used by Powhatan County volunteer firefighters as a source of water when they need extra water to put out fires.  A pipe connected to the lake allows firefighters to quickly and easily draw water.

A week after the lake drained, our neighbor’s shed caught fire, and the fire department was unable to access the dry hydrant.  Water had to be shuttled in by multiple firetrucks from the closest dry hydrant, over 3 miles away. It took the fire department over an hour to control the blaze and the shed was a complete loss. Imagine if this had been their home or YOUR home?

The closest water supplies to replace the lost dry hydrant are the domestic water supplied hydrant at 2660 Anderson Highway (3.2 miles) and the dry hydrant at 3225 Lee’s Landing Road (4.1 miles).

About 645 dwellings or a population of about 1,683 people, along the Red Lane Road corridor are affected by the loss of Lake Louise as a dry hydrant until it is fixed.

Who are we?
We are a concerned group of Powhatan County residents who live in the area surrounding Lake Louise. Our only mission is to restore Lake Louise to it's former glory.

Your support would mean the world to us and our community!  $20, $25, $50 or $500 (if so inclined!) will make a difference!  We are going to do everything we can to get our lake back…and your support will ensure we reach our goal!!!

Where do your donations go?
All donations received from the GoFundMe account are withdrawn from Sharlie Yanez, resident of Lake Louise, and sent to her via check. The check is then deposited into a bank account setup for the Lake Louise Fund. The bank account is managed by Joe Washington, also a resident of Lake Louise. All donations will be held in this bank account until sufficent funds are recieved to begin restoration of Lake Louise. All donations will be used for the sole purpose of restoring Lake Louise. Restoration work on Lake Louise requires fixing the culvert that maintains the water in the lake. The donations received will aid in purchasing the actual materials for the culvert and paying the contractor to fix the culvert.
