Disaster Readlief
I'm a Librarian located in Los Angeles, California. We Librarians are like teachers, we do our job because we like it, not because we necessarily get paid the best. Which presents a problem, because we like to help those in need, which sometimes requires more funds than we take in.
So here is my story for my on-going earthquake relief.
For those of you who have experienced major earthquakes, like me, Loma Prieta, and Northridge, you know the amount it takes to rebuild even with the sophsiticated equipment we are fortunate to have access too.
After the Nepal Earthquake struck, I reached out to a medical student, Yagya P. Timalsina from Kathmandu Medical College and worked with him to collect and send, drawing books, story books, colors, crayons, paints, etc assist in healing . I purchased these from my own funds and sent them via US mail.
I had the privledge to go out to Bhaktapur, Nepal in October and visit the school. I personally purchased and provided the school with additional school supplies. The area that I went to is still recovering from the damage of the earthquake and I will be trying to go back in 6-8 months to work again with Mr. Timalsina to purchase much more needed educational and basic needs for the school children.
Nepal is currently suffering from a fuel crisis that is been going on close to 6 months. Without fuel many people, especially children and elders, will be affected so I would like to be able to provide warm blankets and other items as well, such as basic medical supplies as they are lacking those because of fuel crisis.
I'm asking for funds to assist in getting me there and personally purchase items while in Nepal and so that I know what is being purchased and actually delievered as because Nepal customs is a headache to try and send the items or they won't reach.
Thank you so much for reading and feel free to share this those who might be interested in donating.
