This is a gofundme campaign to support black femme trans folks in New Orleans to secure basic needs like housing, food, and health-related stuff.
When people think of New Orleans, they often think of jazz, Mardi Gras Indians, and more recently bounce music.  All of this stuff is made possible by black people, black culture, and black expression.  It's a big problem when those same people patroned by tourists or transplants cannot find basic needs like housing and food.
It was created jointly by a white-passing black transguy originally from the NY who was on an art residency in NoLa (Deltaworkers), and a local black trans femme performer and DJ who is a part of the scene here.
Transfolks, particularly trans femmes of color, are at a much higher risk for homelessness and violence than other populations, in relation to their percentage of representation in the larger population.
According to recent numbers, 1 in 5 transpeople are likely to be homeless in their lifetime in the US alone.
We are only hoping to collectivize our resources a bit using this platform so that the folks who need help can get it when and if they need it.  In the spirit of the social aid and pleasure clubs established by African-American communities since forever to fill the void.
Please consider donating and distributing to your networks.
The fund will be managed by the black femme trans community in the city of New Orleans.
This fund will be kicked off officially on May 24 at 641 Caffin Avenue as part of Geo's final performance and presentation.  Details aqui
