$9,030 of $9,000 goal

https://www.gofundme.com/big-sur-road-restoration-help-enjoy-the-beauty Please checkout the latest updates! We've made some amazing progress & want to share it with you. We live in one of the most beautiful & celebrated places on the Big Sur coast.  From Prewitt Ridge there are unsurpassed views, both north & south, of the entire coast.   The roads into Los Padres Forest are :  > South Coast Ridge Road > Prewitt Ridge Road  > Alms Ridge Road.  These are all 4WD roads, but with the explosion of camping blogs, Facebook & other social media outlets, our area has become well known for camping, hand gliding & hiking.  Many 2 Wheel drive cars are causing deep ruts, tearing up the roads & turning the roads quite dangerous.  It's around $1,500 just for a tow truck to show up in the forest!  This has happened many times already.  Apple Camp, one of our most notorious areas, was actually shut  down for 20 hrs while the CHP monitored the situation thru the night, waiting for a tow truck for a car that was stuck sideways in the road.  Locals & visitors alike were unable to get in or out during this time. The current conditions create danger for all visitors as well as for residents. We are campaigning to raise money for road base & rock.  Our neighbor, Fort Hunter Liggett, is helping supply some of the repair road work, repairing water bars, etc.  Unfortunately, the U.S. Forest Service does not have the budget to maintain the road.  This summer we were able to repair Chalk Peak, our only section of the road that has asphalt.  The asphalt was privately funded.  Several areas are in dire need of repair & can be quite dangerous.  One of the challenges is that we are very remote, so getting rock & base is expensive to transport to our area.  Your donation will help us fund keeping the roads in decent shape so that the local community & visitors alike can safely enjoy our amazing Big Sur Coast.  Please remember to leave no trace! Any donation small or large will help us toward our goals.  Thank you in advance for your donation - we all appreciate it. Please, if you donate, tell us where you heard about us & why you donated so we can properly thank you! https://www.gofundme.com/big-sur-road-restoration-help-enjoy-the-beauty

Whoo-hoo we did it! We reached our goal .
THANK YOU EVERYONE!
We appreciate your donations & generosity. A special thanks to all the hang/para gliders who donated & FFF for the grant. This would not have happened without you. A special thanks to Joe Greblo for sponsoring the project & helping us with the fund raising - we couldn't have done it without you either.
Our next phase will be exciting & we look forward to sharing news about the road repairs as they happen. I will leave GFM open as a way of communicating our updates on the road. Enjoy the beauty of Big Sur & thank you all again.

We are nearly there!! $285 before we reach our goal of $15,000. Thank you all.
The Carmel Pine Cone newspaper has written an article about our efforts & highlighted the Hang Gliding community in the article. The story starts on page 9A. Google the Cone's latest edition & it will come up. Many of you will enjoy the article. It really highlights the positives of what we can do together as a community. Again, thank all for donating & making this project a reality.

Hello Everyone,
We are adjusting our GFM goal to reflect our now approved $6,000 grant from FFF--Foundation for Free Flight.

The grant allows us to change the GFM goal to $9,000.  With these two sources of funds we'll reach the grand total of $15,000 needed for road repairs.
With todays GFM tally at $7815 we now lack only $1,185 to reach our adjusted goal of $9,000!!

We would like to personally thank each of you for making this campaign possible.  For sharing with your family and friends. For caring about our environment and the Big Sur area. You've made this very special.

Hi All -
Go Fund Me strives to be as transparent as possible so they've asked me to make the following update as required by GFM.
Funds donated are required to be withdrawn every 30 days. The donations have been deposited into Tom Collin's Schwab bank account. Once the road repairs begin in May sometime, the contractor providing the transportation & road base will be paid directly out of Tom's account. The grant for $6,000 will be paid directly by FFF.
