Asking For Asylum

$8,245 of $7,500 goal

Raised by 46 people in 14 months
Created November 3, 2017

Help us fund the medical, transportation and moving expenses that Asylum Seekers in our community face in their effort to rebuild their lives in Montreal.

Asylum seekers are people that are working towards a Refugee status, typically fleeing their homes as a result of conflict or violence. The financial obstacles and lack of support asylum seekers experience are significant. They have relocated from remote global regions to rebuild their lives and leave their support networks behind. Catholic Action Montreal recognizes that non-profit organizations in Canada must work to highlight and remedy some of these issues and we are calling on you, our Montreal community, to help too.Your assistance enables these newcomers to become integrated and productive members of society. The hard workers and volunteers at Catholic Action have already helped a number of families, including a young pregnant woman that formerly slept on the floor of an empty apartment and a young single mother trying to provide a better life for her daughter without any resources or support. Specifically, at Catholic Action, the goal is not to simply provide these brave, deserving families with a temporary shelter.
In addition to increasing awareness regarding the severe barriers that asylum seekers experience, your support will:
• Help cover medical expenses as well as transportation and moving costs associated with furnishing a space
• Help to build a strong relationship and a genuine sense of inclusivity with newcomers to Montreal

Through donations and countless volunteering hours, we have been able to change the lives of several families but our limited funds are running low. Please help us continue to assist young families in rebuilding their lives in Montreal. Gifts of any size would assist these families immensely both through their financial and symbolic impact. Please join us in helping these beautiful families get the fresh start they deserve. Please donate today. A Charitable receipt will be issued for your fiancial gift.  Thank you!

Demonstration of your impact:
A gift of $150 will cover the cost of a doctor’s visit for one family.
A gift of $350 will cover moving expenses for 3 families.
A gift of $1000 will cover the costs of a doctor’s visit, medication and moving expenses for 2 families.
While you see the donations increase you are NOT seeing our expenses, we're running about $400 a week.  So we are running low on cash....please give ❣
