Asbury Park Beach Community Fund

$18,923 of $25,000 goal

Raised by 388 people in 12 months
Hey let's help all Asbury Park residents who live way below the poverty level a chance to enjoy Mother Nature - the beach - during the day when life guards are on duty.  There are so many children, teens & families who cannot afford the hefty fees to swim and play on the beach during the day. Many impoverished kids or families go to the beach in the evening when there are no life guards which is dangerous. This is when drownings tend to occur. Many Asbury Park citizens cannot afford the high beach entry fees. Swimming and playing on the beach would be a great way to deter bored, hot kids from getting into trouble & a great way to allow kids to have fun and meet other kids. Play is important for the emotional, social, cognitive and physical development of children. Give  families, teens & children (with low income) a chance to enjoy the beach this summer.
I am working with both the Boys & Girls Club in Asbury Park & Trinity Church to allow our entire community to have access to the beach. The funds donated will allow me to buy seasonal beach badges. I will provide a receipt for each donation & beach badge bought. The badges bought will be distributed to the Boys & Girls Club & Trinity Church who will give these beach badges to families who live below the poverty level and cannot afford to visit the beach.

( Seasonal Rates Adults: $70 Teens (13-17) and Seniors (62+ with valid ID): $20 Kids 12 and under, Active Military Personnel and their dependents, Disabled Veterans: Free )

I am excited that the amazing community of Asbury Park has already shown their generosity and their positivity towards this effort to allow all of our community to enjoy the beach. I am grateful for each and every person who donates to this cause. These beach badges will allow families to spend the day at the beach together and teens to have supervised, outdoor, healthy fun.
Please comment if you would like an itemized receipt for beach badges that I buy. I will keep this Go Fund Me Page available for donations for the next three weeks.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity and love!

I am joining the Vin Gopal Civic Association in pledging to raise up to $2,000 in matched donations to the Beach Badge Community Fund from May 28 through June 5, with a goal of helping every resident of Asbury Park access local beaches regardless of their income.
The Beach Badge Community Fund, which was created in 2018 by Asbury Park resident Lisa Cramp, is a fundraising program whose funds will be used to purchase seasonal beach badges for low-income Asbury Park families. The badges will be distributed by Trinity Church and The Boys & Girls Club of Monmouth County. Residents can donate through GoFundMe at www.gofundme.com/asbury-park-beach-community-fund, and are encouraged to share the fundraiser on Facebook.
“Our beaches are the lifeblood of Jersey Shore communities like Asbury,” said Senator Gopal. “In Asbury Park, though, more than 30% of residents live below the poverty level, which can strain parents’ abilities to take their kids to the beach. If out-of-state tourists can enjoy the pristine beauty of our beaches, I believe that our impoverished residents deserve that same daytime access as well.”
“When you’re struggling to put food on the table, it can be hard to come up with the money for a beach pass - even if you have kids who would love nothing more than to swim and build sandcastles on the beach down the street,” said Cramp. “Even when the beaches close for the night, no lifeguards are on duty, which means that these local kids still can’t swim safely.
“Last year, we raised an astounding $10,000 to help these families enjoy the beach together - for some kids, for the first time in their lives. This year, I’m hoping to make our Beach Badge Community Fund bigger and better. But to do that, we’ll need all of the help we can get.”
Senator Gopal agrees. “Last year, I was blown away by the generosity of our community and by the willingness of people around the country to help these families share a day at the beach. That’s one of the simplest, most beautiful joys of living on the Shore. If we can help even one more child enjoy that gift, it will all be worth it.

Hey all.

So you are amazing!

We were able to raise the $2000 in three weeks that Senator Vin Gopal will match in donations. That leaves us $4000 from the grand goal. If you have any suggestions for where I can leave fliers, any media sites that will again be interested in getting the word out about the fundraiser or any local business owners who would like a flier for their windows, please let me know. There will be a short blurb in this week's NYT Realestate Section about the beach badge fundraiser. It will be online tomorrow and in the big real paper version Sunday Times! Any suggestions on how to obtain the grand goal would be very much appreciated. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for caring for your community! xo Lisa
