The Scottsdale Artisan Markets  blends art, live music and food twice weekly in a beautiful outdoor setting.  It is a community that has just about everything: waterfront views, interesting people, local shopping, works of art, live music and great local restaurants and shops to enjoy.  And don’t forget the perfect weather.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
What started out as a small gathering in 2008 has quickly grown into a lively community of 30-70 artists that gather Thursday evening and Sunday afternoons around the Marshall Way Bridge and the downtown waterfront in Scottsdale.

From October through April, our seasonal market takes place during the best of Arizona’s weather. Visitors can pop over to pick up a small hostess gift, or stay a while and invest in an art piece for the home, all while enjoying local music ranging from jazz and pop, to reggae and rock.

Recently, the Scottsdale Gallery Association and other merchants in the downtown area petitioned the Scottsdale City Council to shut down our lively, animated and vibrant event claiming a negative impact to the brick and mortart businesses.  The City of Scottsdale is currently undergoing rewriting the special event ordinance to include guildelines, parameters, fees, etc., which would include events such as the Artisan Markets and all other events that take place on public property and to encourage event producers to bring their events to Scottsdale.  To date, Artisan Markets has followed all guidelines, rules, regulations, stipulations, and paid all current fees associated with the current ordinance.

During this grueling battle with the SGA and the City Council, Artisan Markets and Audrey Thacker have been called; predators, poachers, and cancerous tent people.

The city manager and zoning administrator have denied our 2016 application (after initial approval from August 5) and they are still "reviewing" the possibility of rescinding the remaining 2015 permit.   This decision impacts the livelihood, health, safety and welfare of over 50 families who rely on the market to support themselves and bring food to their tables.

It appears that city staff is arbitrarily changing the rules to exclude Artisan Markets and we are at the point of requiring an attorney, looking at a possible re-location, and continueing to bring art, music, and vibrancy to the lives of many at the Scottsdale Waterfront.

All monies raised here will be used to retain an attorney, refund any artists fees of events that require cancelling due to the above decisions, and some administrative costs to either re-locate the market or work to keep the market in it's current location.  We are in dire need to raise funds as soon as possible in order to retain an attorney before the next council meeting on October 27, 2015.

All of our artisan vendors are extremely grateful to you for showing your support and helping to save all our liveliehoods.

Sincerely,

Audrey Thacker
