A Memorial to Anya
On December 28, 2016, our beautiful, loving, sweet Anya passed. She is at rest now from her battle with cancer and leaves us with TONS of wonderful, personal memories and tributes from friends and others who she touched in her 11 years.
At age 9, Anya La Mar, a Pittsburgh area resident, was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. After 12 months of remission the cancer returned and she once again faced multiple rounds of chemotherapy. A new path had to be taken as the cancer was outsmarting the chemotherapy and an immunotherapy treatment was then given on December 15, 2016. It was unknown at the time that Anya had a respiratory virus that ultimately added complications to her breathing. Anya was admitted to the hospital on December 16, 2016, with a high fever. The virus coupled with the lung tumors made it impossible for her to recover. After a 12-day hospital stay at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, she lost her battle. We intend to use donations to further the efforts of pediatric cancer support groups in Pittsburgh and research focused on sarcomas affecting children.
