Offset Costs for Denise!

Alfred Angelo’s closing made national news as they filed bankruptcy and locked their doors—many with customer’s dresses still inside.

The contracted seamstress, Denise, that worked at the Alfred Angelo store in Glen Bernie knew something was up! This wasn’t the first time she had experienced a bridal shop shutting down. Plus, she hadn’t received a check from Alfred Angelo in 4 weeks, but since the company was still taking orders, she thought there was time to finish alterations and she would eventually receive her paychecks in the mail.

Denise found out the store was permanently closing with less than 24 hours’ notice. Coincidentally, all of this happened at the beginning of her vacation. (Talk about horrible timing to find out you no longer have a job!)

Denise hurried to get dresses out of the bridal shop, to store them in her home workspace. She had over 80 dresses in her possession from Alfred Angelo. Some of the dresses were ready to be picked up, while many others needed alterations completed. The customers had already paid Alfred Angelo, but Denise has still not received any payment from Alfred Angelo.

Denise had to contact all of the brides, explain what had happened (and that their dresses were safe!), and make arrangements with each bride—because even though she hasn’t been paid for the work, Denise could not ruin a bride's special day. Needless to say, her vacation was spent responding to frantic brides. She was unable to keep her voicemail inbox empty and people called at all hours of the night, but she understood everyone's concerns.

For the first few weeks, Denise drove to clients' homes, putting thousands of miles on her car. The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Baltimore near BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport has kindly offered Denise a conference room for bridal fittings. Although their very generous offer has helped greatly, it doesn’t change the fact that she is doing much of the alterations for “free.” Denise has been informed that compensation from Alfred Angelo shouldn’t be expected.

At a time where many people’s #1 priority would be to find a new job, Denise is altering dresses to ensure that her brides are able to have their dream weddings, in their beloved dresses.

While there are bigger tragedies than losing a wedding dress, Denise’s good deeds have made a positive impact on so many people. I’ve started this GoFundMe for Denise after several people asked for a way to show their appreciation. Please donate here!
