Alex Swanson's Story Walk Project
Hello, my name is Alex Swanson, I am a Boy Scout from Troop 77 in Hopkinton. I am currently working on my Eagle Scout service project and am seeking assistance fundraising. My project is a Story Walk, which is a series of panels along a trail. Displayed in each panel are pages to a children's picture book. The story is read as they stop at each panel during the walk. The Story Walk will improve literacy as well as provide kids with a fun outdoor activity. The book on the Story Walk will be changed regularly to keep it updated, relevant, and interesting. I, along with some volunteers will be constructing 22 panels along a rail trail that runs next to the library. The projected completion date is October 2018. Please consider supporting my project so everyone can get out in our beautiful town and read some great stories! Thank you for your help!+ Read More
We are able to decrease our online Gofundme goal due to receiving a few offline donations! Thank you!!
The Story Walk is almost completed, we are applying the finishing touches! The boards have been painted and the frames have been reinforced with acrylic cement. We had a great turnout at the opening on the 5th, if you missed it you can read about it here: https://mattforrest.wordpress.com/2018/10/09/a-flashlight-night-for-flashlight-night/
The Story Walk is almost completed! 18 of the 21 posts are in the ground and the frames are being assembled, they will be attached to the posts as soon as they are ready. The opening of the Story Walk will be at 5pm on Friday, October 5th at the Pillsbury Free Library. All are welcome to attend.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed thus far. Construction is beginning this month with the digging of post holes. Here is a map of where the trail is located. I am still looking for donations to pay for the remaining materials (plexiglass, hardware, etc). Please feel free to share this with anyone who might be interested.
