Mercedes Restaurant Staff Severance

Mercedes Restaurant has closed! The last lunch was served on November 22nd. After surviving for 40+ years, this San Francisco small business just couldn’t absorb the latest rental increase. I'm keeping this open as I can still get donations to former staff members.
I’m one of many loyal long term customers who is concerned about the 12 people on staff. You may not realize how long this team has been serving their customers. 5 employees (20+ years), 2 employees (15-20 years) and 1 employee 10-15 years. Many were already on staff when Kate, Janine and Leanna bought the restaurant in 1994.
There isn’t money for severance and they closed before their busy holiday season that has always provided extra income for the team.

Note: I’ve worked with Kate (the owner of Mercedes) and staff at GoFundMe for input on how best to structure fundraising for a group of people that isn’t going to a specific charity. GoFundMe’s recommendation was that I would draw the funds and pay it out to the staff directly. 100% of net proceeds (after GoFundMe fees) will go directly to Mercedes employees. I realize there is an element of trust on donor’s part with this process. I just want to help this group of special people.
