WHAT IS ACT-SO ?
ACT-SO (an acronym for “Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological & Scientific Olympics”) is an olympic mentoring program whereby students demonstrate academic, artistic and scientific expertise.
Students who participate in ACT-SO work with mentors to help them develop projects in preparation to compete with other students in categories which include S.T.E.M., Humanities, Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Business. Students receive medals and prizes provided by the local and regional sponsors and contributors.
ACT-SO, often referred to as the “Olympics of the Mind”, seeks to promote the following:
- Positive self-esteem
- Positive interaction between students & adults
- Positive academic and artistic excellence
- High academic and cultural achievement
WHAT WE NEED
Each week, ACT-SO hosts enrichment workshops and masterclasses after school for high school students designed to build their gifts and character. The classes are all FREE for the student - paid for by generous donors such as yourself.
We need your financial assistance in making the ACT-SO Columbia program a success. Your donations will be used exclusively to underwrite ACT-SO Columbia which includes, but is not limited to:
- Workshops & MasterClasses
- Field Trips
- Snacks provided for each class
- Student Materials Needed for Projects
- Paying the expenses needed to take participating students to the national competition
- Travel, Food and Lodging for the national student medalists
- and more
Won't you consider making a donation to help us offset some of our expenses. No amount is too small and every cent goes towards ACT-SO expenses.
