ECIR Community Meals Campaign

$3,055 of $3,000 goal

Raised by 73 people in 43 months
At the Ecumenical Center and International Residence (ECIR), we are a home away from home for international and domestic students and scholars.

We are an intentional living and learning community that believes in creating an environment that promotes peace and lifelong friendships by holding events and programs that encourage intergroup, intercultural, interreligious, and interspiritual dialogue.

One of ECIR's most popular and well-attended events are the Community Meals.  Community Meals give the residents of ECIR an opportunity  to share their culture and traditions through food with all who come through our doors.

The cost of one Community Meal is $250.  We are aiming to raise enough to have 1 Community Meal a month for an entire year.

All of the regular events and programs ECIR provides are of no charge to the residents and to the public.  We hope to provide more Community Meals in the future and ask for your involvement and generosity to make this a possibility.

Thank you and looking forward to having you at our next Community Meal!

In Peace,

Alas, the fall semester is here. And with a new semester comes a full schedule of new community meals!

ECIR has already had two community meals--both of which were a heaping success. The first of which was an Indian Community meal in which over EIGHTY people came. New residents, returning residents, volunteers, and friends of the center gathered together for fellowship and delicious food.

And most recently, a group of ECIR's Taiwanese residents prepared food from their native culture for the community to share. And in addition to food--they made homemade BUBBLE TEA!!!

The first two community meals of the semester provided some glaring reminders:

-Community meal is the highest attended program by far and attendance continues to increase--often DOUBLING in size.
-Residents, friends, and volunteers appreciate this time as it is an opportunity to eat delicious, diverse food while meeting new people and creating relationships.

As our meals continue to increase in attendance, so does the cost. We are so close to our $3, 000 goal.

Please consider donating today to help us reach our goal. You can also support us by sharing this campaign on your social media or via email.

Peace and blessings,

Last night, June 30, was ECIR's Annual Summer Picnic! Every year around this time ECIR throws a grill on the front lawn and cooks up some delicious BBQ...vegetarian bbq too! And volunteers bring dishes to pass and SO MANY good desserts.

Summertime at ECIR has a little bit of a different feel because so many of the residents are here for shorter terms- many for just one month. That is why the annual summer picnic is so special and significant; it is an opportunity for the summer residents to take a moment and feel connected during their short stint in Ann Arbor. ECIR believes that each resident should feel welcomed, included, and represented, no matter how short or long a resident's stay at ECIR is. That is why programming does not stop during the summer! Looking forward to this month (July)- we will have a Chinese Community Meal, an ice cream social, and a Thai Community Meal. LET THERE BE FOOD!!

It has been just over a year since this Go Fund Me campaign was created and we are only $500 from finishing! Thank you to everyone that has given so generously. Please consider donating today to help us reach THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS!

Thank you to ALL of you. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and a Happy Fourth of July!

Last night, ECIR organized a Progressive Dinner in which each part of the meal was shared in a different apartment.

The first stop included delicious nutella banana rolls and fresh chai tea, next was a salad bar with all the fixings, third was some yummy bruschetta, and last was some amazing chocolate semolina with vanilla ice cream.

Progressive Dinner is a unique community meal because it allows residents and friends of the center to go in each other's apartments and socialize in a more intimate setting.

Residents kept commenting about how great this event was because you can learn and observe so much about an individual and their identity simply by entering their apartment.

This upcoming Tuesday, residents will be offered a free meal of soup and sandwiches so that they can take some time off during the crazy end-of-semester period. Additionally, a week from this Friday ECIR is hosting an end of the semester potluck for residents and friends.

Can you see a common theme? Food brings the community together.

Will you help us reach our goal of $3,000? We are SO CLOSE!

Please donate today to help us wrap up this campaign!

This past Monday, ECIR residents Katja and Linda prepared a delicious German meal for the community. Over fifty people came and gobbled up the delicious food. ECIR hasn't had a community meal with attendance below 45 people ALL year!

Looking forward, ECIR will be bringing back the much-loved Progressive Dinner in April in which each part of the meal is prepared and shared in a different apartment. So residents and friends walk around the center enjoying multicultural food and beverages. HOW FUN! The beauty of Progressive Dinner is that people get to experience multiple cultures in one night through food and conversation.

We are so very, very close to meeting our final goal of $3, 000 for this campaign. Please donate $5 or more today to help us reach our final goal.

If you are more comfortable writing a check, you can make it payable to ECIR and write "Community Meals" in the memo line.
