A New Car for Teddy Patrick
On a Facebook page celebrating Teddy, many people have expressed kind words...
"He always makes me smile no matter how bad my day is." - Jason Winters
"Teddy is an amazing man. He is kind, caring and has a beautiful heart. I love to catch him mid-song. He is a gift to everyone who has been blessed by his presence." - Jenny Singh-Mott
"I love Teddy! Although I live close to the Camas Costco, I will go out of my way to to the Andresen location, just to get my Teddy fix. He always puts a smile on my face and a lilt in my step. What an asset he is to Costco. Keep singing and inspiring, Teddy!" - Judy DeVet Nissing
According to a 2013 Columbian article, he faced homelessness in 2002 and was able to get on at Costco in Portland. Teddy came to our Vancouver Costco in 2005. In 2013, he had brain surgery. It has not been an easy journey for Teddy, but he has never let that on to anyone who comes across him at Costco. He shares with others nothing but sunshine.
Last night, someone stole Teddy's 1994 Honda Accord from the Andresen Costco parking lot. Of all the people to steal from right before Christmas, they picked the man who gives so much to others.
We've received word that his vehicle was recovered, but that doesn't change our goal. Teddy has given so much joy to us all that we want to give him a new car. 100% of funds raised will be going to Teddy Patrick, earmarked towards the purchase of a new vehicle of his choosing.
Vancouver community -- let's come together and get Teddy a new car. He deserves it. It's time to give back to the man who has inspired so many and brightened so many days for us all.
A few nuts and bolts as requested by GoFundMe:
Who am I and where am I from? How do I know Teddy?
My name is Stacey Browning -- I'm a Costco shopper and a Clark County dweller- just one of the many people Teddy has touched with his kindness and his joyful spirit. I came to start this campaign after reading the Clark County Sheriff's Office's Facebook post about the theft, and knowing immediately that Teddy deserved better.
How will these funds be spent?
Though Teddy's stolen car was recovered, some of his personal items were stolen, and our goal remains the same. I want to show Teddy the GOODNESS of our community, how much love we have for him, and how much we appreciate him. These funds are being collected in order to be given to Teddy towards the car of his choosing. Some community members have reached out and suggested working out a deal with a local dealership on his behalf -- if we can raise enough funds to do so, I will be exploring that option. Wouldn't it be amazing to get Teddy a brand new ride with a security system and some brand new golf clubs to replace the stolen ones? Let's make it happen!
How will we get the funds to Teddy?
The intent is for the funds to be directly withdrawn by Teddy, as 100% of what is collected (minus GoFundMe's fees) is for him. We have reached out to him directly to begin gathering the information needed to get this in his hands. Funds will not be withdrawn until arrangements have been made directly with or by Teddy Patrick for their use.
I just wanted to reach out and say thank you again for your contributions. The enormous response this campaign received speaks volumes about the heart and soul of our community, and I am so proud of the way we came together to make this happen.
I have a happy update for you: I was finally able to connect with Teddy yesterday! It took some time because he has been quietly recovering, but it was wonderful to hear from him. As of this morning, I have signed over the funds raised to Teddy. From here, he will just need to follow the instructions that GoFundMe will be sending him, and then he will be able to collect the money.
As you know, Teddy is still recovering from heart surgery. He expressed that he would like to meet once he is feeling stronger. I am certainly in no hurry -- this is all about Teddy and I am excited to connect with him further on his own timeline. When that is able to happen, I will provide an additional update for you all!
That said, friends-- this doesn't mean the campaign has to be over. You can still donate and spread the word!
Thank you again for all the love and caring shown. It is people like you who bring light to a sometimes dark world. Don't ever stop bringing that kindness into the world.
I left one comment but I would like to leave one more. 10 or more years ago are used to go into the Costco in Hazel Dell with my former husband and he always saw us smiling together and he always told us we were a wonderful couple and God loved us. Occasionally one of us would go into the Costco alone and Teddy would ask about how the other of us was doing and bless us. About 6 years ago, at the lowest point in my life, I went into Costco alone. My husband and I had separated. I had my public face on and I don't think anyone would have really noticed that I was struggling from the outside, just looking at me. I got in Teddy's line and he look me in the eye and it felt like he saw into my soul and he said, "God loves you. You will be okay." I walked out to my car and sobbed. I will never forget what Teddy did for me that day. I believe that if every single person whose lives he touched donated $5 he could build a homeless shelter for the disadvantage and feed the world.
I have submitted a request to Dick Hannah in Vancouver to match funds or give a donation to help with our efforts. This is what I received back: Thank you for submitting your donation request to Dick Hannah Dealerships on behalf of . Please keep the following information for your records: Name: New car for Teddy Patrick from Costco Donation ID: 9866 GIVINGtrax Hope I haven't overstepped my bounds.
Rhonda, I just read your second comment & the tears are flowing. Some people just have that light within them that burns brightly for all to see. Teddy is one of those people. He's touched so many lives with such grace. Each of us hopes to touch ONE person on this earth, in some great way, well he has touched many, MANY people. A humble, unassuming man, working at Costco, he's done and is doing a GREAT work for The Lord! God Bless..
I think this is great. We need more people to come together in communities everywhere with this kind of love and kindness!! I'd contact Dick Hanna up in Vancouver. He's large enough and they'd probably get him into a new car just for the positive publicity. Good luck
We love Teddy! Our family shops at that Costco and Teddy is always the highlight of our day. We'll wait in a longer line just to have him check our receipt when leaving. He has a lovely voice and always a song on his lips during the Christmas Season. He's unafraid and unashamed of his faith & love for God! May God richly bless you Teddy! It's ironic, I suggested setting up a Go Fund Me to my son when he first told me about this- A BIG Thank you to Stacey for taking action!!
The campaign says they found the car. I think the idea is to showTeddy how much he means to the community. I hope he sells his other car and gets enough donations to buy a new new car :) Hopefully he won't give all the money away-- I could see him doing that. Teddy, it isn't about the car. You are a loving inspiration to so many people. You are loved.
Depending on the car he wants please post or update. I have a few friends who are salesmen and sales managers who would love to help. Whether a kia to a BMW. Happy to see this! He always makes my kiddos smile and it feels like Christmas when we enter Costco and hear him sing!
Teddy is amazing and my kids always look for him when they are with me. Rarely are they with me as both started school last year, but he always remembers them as asked about them. Then makes their visit special when he does see them. Such a lovely man.
Tara B K, he may have been embarrassed and reluctant to take the gift if it was given to him on Costco premises. I had a Christmas gift for him and as I was getting ready to hand it to him, he politely waved me off and told me of the store policy against the employees receiving any gifts. He took my phone number and promised to call me on the following Saturday for a meet. Unfortunately, I think that was when he took ill, because I never heard from him. I heard about this site and made a donation. I still have his Christmas gift. Praying that he recovers soon.
I just talked to Teddy last night, 2/22/2017. He says he hasn't heard from anyone regarding the car or the money. He was singing as usual and was very humble about the Go Fund Me account. It is best if someone gets in touch with him!!!
I truly feel for this man. He seems like such an inspiration to everyone around him❤
Is Teddy aware this gofundme is happening?
