We Have Lost Our Lease and Must Move!  We Need Your Help to Stay Open!

The Backstory
The Fort Collins Shambhala Meditation Center (FCSMC), a well-loved non-profit organization in the Fort Collins community for thirty years, must move from its current location in Old Town in order to continue to serve the people in Northern Colorado.

Our current lease comes to an end in December of 2019 and we have to move.  Fortunately, the Shambhala Center has a remarkable opportunity to relocate to 525 West Oak Street — an ideal location — but we need your help to make it happen!  We ask you to support our Capital Campaign to renovate and relocate to a new, nonprofit center to keep FCSMC open and accessible for all.

What We Offer:
Every week, we touch the lives of dozens of people by providing a safe, quiet space to slow down and to benefit from the practice of mindfulness meditation.  Many people come to the Center to find the antidote to the effects of our complicated lives which includes stress, worry, trauma, social pressures, divorce or family turmoil.  Others come out of curiosity or an interest in studying Buddhist teachings.

For thirty years, through the work of our many dedicated volunteers, we have helped thousands of people lead more peaceful and meditative lives by offering free secular meditation instruction four times a week, free public meditation practice sessions four times a week, as  well as a wide variety of meditation classes and Shambhala Buddhist studies and related programs.  Our weekly Heart of Recovery program joins meditation and 12-step work in order to connect to and engage in a commitment to recovery from addiction, addictive behaviors and patterns in our lives.

Our Financial Goals:
Our GoFundMe goal is $30,000.  We are well on our way to reaching our overall goal of $283,000.  The money we raise will help us to relocate and renovate the Oak Street space which includes the expense of adding three new accessible unisex bathrooms.  This is an incredible and auspicious opportunity and with your support we can afford to continue our work and outreach in Northern Colorado.

 Our Aspiration:
The Fort Collins Shambhala Meditation Center is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people of all ages develop the life skill of mindfulness-awareness meditation.  We aspire to help all of society reduce stress and awaken to our innate goodness, wisdom, and compassion, and to express this through kindness, generosity, and courage in daily life.

An Amazing Opportunity:
Brinkman, a B-Corp, has purchased the building and is working with United Way to convert it into the non-profit Community Impact Center.  This is an incredible opportunity for FCSMC.  The building also comes with lots of on-site free parking and accessible entrance ramps.

Our Long-term Future:
We will be better suited to reach more of the Northern Colorado community to impart the life-changing skill of secular mindfulness-awareness meditation to all who are interested, regardless of religion, class, ethnicity, race, political views, age, gender, sexual orientation, or physical or mental abilities.  We also offer a generosity policy to anyone who is interested in attending any number of other classes we offer but who are unable to pay the full price of tuition.

Implications of Shutting Our Doors:
Our ability and desire to offer free meditation sitting and instruction four times a week (~2,600 attendees per year), our weekly Heart of Recovery program joining meditation and 12-step work to help those recovering from addiction and addictive behaviors (~1,700 attendees per year), and a wide variety of Shambhala Buddhist studies and related programs (~350-400 registrants per year) would come to an end.

Support Our Campaign:
We are thrilled to say that as of July 18, WE HAVE RAISED  86% OF OUR GOAL OF $283,000.  The money raised during this capital campaign will give us the resources we need to fund our portion of the renovation costs and thus be able to operate out of the new space for many years to come.

Donate Today!
Please help us make this move possible by donating today to our GoFundMe campaign and sharing this opportunity with your friends, family, and neighbors through your favorite social media platforms.  With your tax-deductible donation, we know we can raise the rest of the funds to keep the Fort Collins Shambhala Meditation Center open and accessible for the good of all.

Your generosity and support is very much appreciated and invaluable to helping the Fort Collins Shambhala Meditation Center ensure that our ‘little spot of sanity’ continues in Northern Colorado for many years to come!

Thank You for Your Support!
