Re: Young and Sam Oh - Java Connection

Greetings friends and loyal customers of Java Connection at the Wheaton Metra train station!

By now you probably all know the story about the fire that broke out on November 22, the night before Thanksgiving.  Local media and news stations have reported on the details and the repair status of the station, but nowhere will you see mention of the small business that was lost, destroyed by the fire that ignited from a furnace malfunction

Young and Sam Oh have owned and operated the tiny coffee shop, that has jump-started and caffeinated many of you on your morning commute.  If you weren't already aware, they reside in Arlington Heights, they have a 10 year old daughter and they support Sam's mother in their home, since the passing of his father.

As you know, they are always cheerful, always caring and most of all,  always there.  For almost 9 years now they have daily been leaving their home in Arlington Heights at 4:00 am to daily drive the distance to Wheaton to set up shop, brew the coffee and meet the newspaper delivery.  They have never once, in 9 years, even closed for a vacation!

This small business, Java Connection is their single-source of livelihood.  They live to connect with every person who daily makes their acquaintance, for these few hours, in this tiny shop, in our Wheaton community.

Hopefully, they will make it back but for now, this holiday season, their business is lost.  The customers that they saw and served - day in and day out - meant the world to them.  Without their business and their loyal customers, they are empty and their future is uncertain. Bills still need to be paid, mortgage payments still beckon and - it's Christmas time.

I have worked for and with, Young and Sam for most of their 9 years in operation.  They are very quiet and unassuming people.  Knowing them like I do, I see them trying to keep an upbeat and positive demeanor - and they won't admit need.  They will have to wait out the investigation before the insurance 'tug of war' begins. That’s where the future is murky.  Not a very joyous holiday season for the Oh family.

It is my hope and intention, to rally around this couple who have served us well and have recently and suddenly lost their business. The holiday season is the worst time to be faced with a crisis situation - but it is also the best time to extend our hearts and our resources to those in need.

I have set up this GoFundMe account for Young and Sam (unbeknownst to them) to show them that 'Wheaton Cares' as a community and their friends and customers have not forgotten them.

Peace and God bless you in this season of giving!
