Hurricane Maria - Clean Water

$9,775 of $9,000 goal

Raised by 184 people in 12 months
Disaster recovery takes a lot of courageous work.

We have seen the impact soft virtue of kindness can have in the aftermath of the recent disasters to now include now Hurricane Maria. We all feel a little more elevated when we’ve seen these acts of kindness in an ever-increasing decisive world. Today, I’m asking for your kindness to donate to our efforts to bring water filters to the people of Puerto Rico.

I’m grateful to be leaving for the island and bring as many filters with me as the airlines will allow. I am positive that with your help we will have a greater impact to reduce suffering and prevent waterborne illnesses.

Please take part in this very worthy campaign of action and awareness by using and sharing the donation link -- https://www.gofundme.com/United-Puerto-Rico in your social media channels and encourage people in your network to donate.

Help kindness spread like wildfire,
Charles Timms

Hello family and friends,

This past Saturday the people of Barrio Achiote in the town of Naranjito were extremely happy to have received your warm wishes of support for quicker recovery. While the picture shows 2 cases (~ 6 gallons) of water, 2 FEMA boxes of food and 100 LifeStraw filters. What they were really given by Migdalia and Pedro of the Red Cross was the equivalent of 10 months of water or 26,400 gallons. The end is in sight for those without access to clean water. Because of you, the island is at 96 percent access to water and the people of Puerto Rico and I thank you.

Many of you were here in support 2 days after Maria struck Puerto Rico and many more followed in the ensuing weeks and months. We would like to thank you for your support and your trust in us. We are proud to say that 100% of the donations received from this fund raiser went directly to providing the people of Puerto Rico with clean water. Just as you have been a blessing to the people of Puerto Rico, please continue to illuminate the world with your positive influence. We don't want to say goodbye, we will just say until we meet again.

It’s truly wonderful to see how the power of your donations are helping others to recover ❤
Puerto Rico extends into the fourth month after Maria struck with many residents struggling to cope with the devastation left by the category four hurricane with power remaining unavailable to approximately 45% of the island. According to the US Army Core of Engineers they expect 100% service across the island by May 2018, that’s 223 days since Hurricane Maria hit. These are not typical first world problems American citizens must contend with wondering when the next drink of water will come or the next time they can light their home. Numerous towns like the Rio Grande municipality only minutes away from San Juan have not had power since before Hurricane Irma (Early September).

Thanks to the Red Cross and your donations we continue to work closely with government and partner agencies to identify priority areas in the mountains where relief supplies including food and water, health and mental health services are delivered. Today our teams provided LifeStraw water filters to the Bucarabones Barrio, Las Marias as a longer-term solution to the lack of access to clean water. Until today the people of Bucarabones have been simply drinking unfiltered ground water. They were grateful and very happy to receive your gift of clean water. Please continue to help communities like this by donating or by spreading the word that the need is still there. https://www.gofundme.com/United-Puerto-Rico

We may not be able to help everyone but everyone can help someone.

You are appreciated,
Charles

Happy holidays family and friends. We are sending this note of deep gratitude to our donors for taking a chance on a new nonprofit that some said would surely fail. So much blood, sweat, and tears went into creating a supply chain to send water filters to rural areas as a longer-term solution to the lack of access to clean water. We hope you continue to donate because we know the people appreciate your support. How can we improve further?

What do you do after 54 days of disaster relief? You get back at it!

Our biggest shipment of 100 filters, that’s 26,400 gallons of clean water coming to you Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

None of this would be possible without our donors, the great work by the Red Cross volunteers (Teams Arriba and Team Loco), and our sponsor Cabela Outdoor Sports Store. If you are able to give please go to:

Many thanks and happy holidays!
