"Judge your friends by those
who support and love you;
judge your comrades by those
who would fight for common ideals
and suffer/die with you"

Please consider making a donation to this fundraising campaign for longtime anarchist political prisoner, theorist, and organizer Lorenzo Kom’boa Ervin. He has been going through a lot as of lately, including financial difficulties, transportation issues, health concerns and the medical expenses that come along with being type-2 diabetic. His life’s work has opened a path forward for anti-capitalist, anti-racist, and anti-patriarchy organizing in geographies where the non-profit and academic industrial complexes have largely co-opted the progressive-to-radical “Left.” He needs to survive. Please consider contributing to this fund.

White supremacy must be abolished within leftist political movements throughout the “global North.” This internal racism needs to be placed at the center of our analyses and movement-building practices, and completely smashed. Moreover, white revolutionaries need to take up arms behind, with, and alongside grassroots movements that already exist in Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities.  This is happening in small pockets, but it needs to happen on a mass scale and Lorenzo’s writing shows us the way.

I was introduced to his work via Facebook during the early stages of “Occupy.” First, I read the his sharp criticsm of white anti-racism in the "Progressive Plantation: Racism Within White Radical Social Change Groups," and much later I began picking up "Anarchism and the Black Revolution: The Idea of Black Autonomy." These texts, amongst other writings of his, are invaluable for those genuinely interested in developing autnomous revolutionary movements that do not reinscribe white supremacist capitalist heteropatriachy. These books have been circulating once again as the new Black protest movement has ebbed and flowed over the past several years, and the "Progressive Plantation" should be required reading for antifascists whose organizing is gaining visibility in the political mainstream.

To quote a recent post of his: “I have been thinking about my life now more than ever, the older I get. I don't know about you, but after “life” in prison, then organizing for 50 years with various movements, fighting the KKK in Tennessee, Georgia, and other places, existing in poverty for most of my life, and just generally working to help someone else instead of just myself, there is not much more that I fear, but a lot that I wish I could still do.” Please consider contributing something --- even if only a few dollars --- to this campaign. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you have the means to help a comrade in need, your support is deeply apprecaiated. #Solidarity

Hey everybody,

Lorenzo and JoNina would like to extend a warm thank you for all of the support and aid thus far. It has been a sobering and humbling experience to see this type of solidarity arrive for Lorenzo. His health has been ailing and car has been broken down. And now, a close comrade has passed, and this money will have to go towards breaking even on flights to the funeral.

I'm soliciting funds on behalf of Lorenzo and JoNina because I believe we need to be supporting elders in the movements [we], as younger activists, have entered into and are trying to sustain, remodel, or make anew. We're trying to *sustain* generations, the schooling of generations, the river... you know.

Below is a copied/pasted message from Lorenzo, hoping you might decide to help the comrade out further. He is a founding member of the Black Autonomy Federation, a longtime organizer, ex-panther, anarchist theorist, and one of the staunchest critics of racism in progressive political movements throughout the so-called "global North." Please take this time to read below, learn about him, and possibly RT/circulate/donate-to this campaign link. The small effort it takes is greatly appreciated.

[L: "A long-time friend and fellow activist of mine died last night in a hospital. She was a friend of JoNina's as well. We have no money to pay for our trip at all, and it will cost us $1,600 for airplane tickets, not to mention hotel rooms. We can use the money you had raised at this point to attend the funeral. We had hoped to use these funds for personal expenses, and this would be crippling to us.

This is why we are asking that you continue to run the fundraising campaign as long as possible, now just to pay ourselves back, if nothing else. Please give us some ideas as to how we can continue to raise funds and raise the amount of funds.

We will have to leave possibly by Friday or whenever they let us know of the funeral arrangements in Chattanooga."]

Shout out to!

Black Rose Rosa Negra Anarchist Federation has been generously supportive of this campaign.

The info commons LibCom have also bee circulating his writings to draw attention to the importance of this campaign.

I think, if anything, this type of campaign is most important in that it shows the *need* for an organization of revolutionary elders dedicated to not only preserving their "knowledge", "stories", and "lessons", but providing care directly for those who have struggled before us.

Lorenzo is a veteran of an entirely different war. A Black/New Afrikan prisoner of war whose life's work has been dedicated to the abolition of the authoritarian capitalist state, white supremacist domestic warfare, U.S. imperialism, and the prison industrial complex.

Please look up the principles of the Black Autonomy Federation to get a glimpse at the principles that have guided most of his life's work in writings.
