Ride It Out seeks to teach PTSD effected law enforcement, first responders and military veteran’s mountain bike riding and maintenance skills as an alternative therapy. The psychological benefits of cycling can serve as an additional coping mechanism to traditional clinical based therapies. Ride It Out strives to raise PTSD awareness and break the stigma related to PTSD, while also serving as a peer support network for its participants.

Funding allows us to provide a bicycle fleet, parts, maintenance, skills training, rides and other related events.  An important part of our PTSD therapy strategy is to provide an opportunity for participants to experience the peace and serenity of the outdoor environment typical of a single track mountain bike experience.

Funding allows us to provide a mountain bike fleet, parts, maintenance, skills training, rides and other related events. An important part of our PTSD therapy strategy is to provide an opportunity for participants to experience the peace and serenity of the outdoor environment typical of a single track mountain bike setting.

Specifically, we are in need of a 6X12 v-nose, extended height trailer which will be used to store and transport our fleet of mountain bicycles.

Your donations allow us mobilize our fleet of mountain bikes and transport them along with our portable skills course obstacles. These are used to develop the basic skills needed to successfully ride single track trails in a wooded environment, and to teach our participants repair and maintenance skills.

Many service men and women are struggling with mental health issues after their tours abroad; this epidemic is claiming the lives of more veterans than the most recent wars themselves. With the growing need for effective mental health services, many veterans are turning to alternative forms of “green” treatment in outdoor settings. Since camaraderie, physical challenge, and personal growth are characteristics of both military service and of many of the ecotherapeutic programs cropping up around the United States, it makes this an ideal treatment form for veterans struggling with posttraumatic stress.

The aim of these ecotherapy programs and services is to connect veterans back to nature in a way that will conjure positive emotions and elicit a sense of confidence when reintegrating into the civilian world.
