We are QuanTâm by Team Chaplin, a team of business students at UIC who strive for the best and aren't afraid to fail. QuanTâm members were selected by Professor Lan Nguyen Chaplin because of their professionalism, grit, and because they are all hard-working and self-motivated. QuanTâm is about students who are learning how to handle the business world, and becoming professionals, but also about giving back to their community. The meaning behind it is a strong representation of the team and its values. It stems from Vietnamese roots (just like Professor Chaplin) and by itself means to pay attention to with lots of concern and care. Every semester, we choose a service project that allows us to give back to our community as a team.
We decided to partner with Cradles to Crayons Chicago for our Fall Semester Operation that has been dubbed OPERATION QUANTÂM QUEST! Cradles to Crayons story began in a bedroom drawer. While founder Lynn Margherio was helping her young niece get dressed, she noticed many pieces of clothing were outgrown. Others were never worn, with price tags still on them. Lynn thought: “What if these like-new and never-used things could find their way to children who really need them?” Less than two years later in 2002, Lynn launched Cradles to Crayons in Boston. Since their inception, they’ve grown in Massachusetts and beyond: Philadelphia in 2006, Chicago in 2016, and two more sites in the planning stages. Through it all, their mission remained clear: to provide children from birth through age 12 with the everyday essentials they need to thrive — at home, at school, and at play. Their overarching vision — a future free of childhood poverty — inspires their work every day.
Last year, we set a goal of 40 plastic bags filled with clothes, books, and small toys that were in new to like-new condition. What initially seemed like a daunting goal for many of us, quickly turned into an exciting challenge! We quickly filled Professor Chaplin’s garage with so many bags that she could no longer park her car in it. After nearly 3 months of collecting donations, our team collected over 200 bags. This year, we set our goal a bit higher! We plan to collect 250 bags of donations for Cradles to Crayons. This year, we plan to use the funds raised on this page to rent a storage pod, organize the delivery of the storage pod to The Giving Factory, and to help with purchasing some of the most needed items on C2C’s list. You can become part of our quest by donating to our GoFundMe page or filling bags with clothes, books, or toys! To donate items please directly contact us at [email redacted]
