Dear Franchisees,

As you know, Hurricane Maria has made a devastating impact on Puerto Rico.

Search and rescue crews have been deployed, the entire island is without power (they anticipate that it could take several months before it’s back up again), and many communities have been hit hard due to severe wind damage and flash flooding. This is the most powerful storm to hit the island in nearly a century.

First and foremost, our thoughts are with the people of Puerto Rico, our franchisees, Kim and Rick Sciacca, and their 250 employees who work in their 11 clubs on the island – all of which are closed. Kim and Rick are doing everything in their power to confirm the safety of their employees, although with little to no cell service, communication has been extremely challenging and limited. In addition, they are in the process of assessing the damage to their clubs. By all accounts, they believe every club in Puerto Rico has likely been impacted in some way – from entire store fronts blown out leaving the location completely exposed, to roof and water damage. With Hurricane Maria also hitting the Dominican Republic earlier today, they are assessing the impact there as well.

Over the coming days and weeks, Rick and Kim will continue to assess the situation and how it has impacted their employees, their clubs and the communities they serve. The PFHQ team is having daily check-in calls with them and they have been encouraged to let us know what we as a PF family can do to help (whether that be sending supplies and essential items once the ports reopen, to leveraging relationships or contacts to source items like generators, etc.). We will keep you informed as this will be a significant recovery process.

In the meantime, we wanted to recirculate the GoFund me link again: https://www.gofundme.com/PFDisasterReliefFund  . Your donation will provide financial assistance to help with housing, transportation, clothing and other essential items for employees and their families. Given the widespread devastation of Hurricane Maria, and the recent effects of Hurricane Harvey and Irma, there is no doubt that the need for donations continues to rise. As previously communicated, we intend to move all hurricane relief funds raised by the PF family to the Planet Fitness Disaster Relief Fund, which will be a tax-deductible, 501c3 organization.

Coming together in times of need is what sets our franchise system apart from the rest. We continue to be grateful and inspired by your generosity, and thank you all for your support.

 One Team. One Planet.

Thank you to everyone who generously contributed to help Planet Fitness staff who have been affected by the recent hurricanes. Through your support, we will be able to provide much-needed assistance to these members of the PF family.

As previously communicated, funds are being moved to the newly-established Planet Fitness Disaster Relief Fund, a tax-deductible, 501(c)(3) organization. Franchisees in affected regions have provided an assessment of their employees’ needs and funds are being dispersed accordingly.
