Our Community Needs Hayron!

$7,110 of $7,100 goal

The Central Falls Police Department (CFPD) and the residents we serve need your help!!  After years of loyal service to the department and Central Falls’ nearly 20,000 residents (while serving neighboring communities when needed), Axel, CFPD’s beloved police K-9, is now retired due to a medical condition and living with his handler/best friend.

With your support, we are looking to add a new officer to the unit, Hayron.  Hayron is an 18-month old German Shepherd, Czech import.  He is very social and even tempered, which will greatly assist our public relations efforts and ability to be present at community events, especially youth events, and continue to build trust with the residents we serve.  However, don’t let his temperament fool you, he will be a tremendous asset for the department helping with patrol, narcotics detection, search and rescue, along with performing other critical functions.

Please consider lending a hand as we work to raise $7,100 to bring this critical community asset and lovable friend to his new home.  (Given the importance of bringing Hayron onto the CFPD, the City of Central Falls has already committed to the cost of training.)

All organizations and individuals making a $500 donation or greater will be invited to Hayron’s inauguration and welcome to take a picture with him on his special day.

Over 75 community donations add Canine to Central Falls Police Department
Hayron to be sworn-in after completing rigorous 13-week program as he prepares to hit the streets

Central Falls - On Monday, July 10th, Mayor James A. Diossa and Colonel James J. Mendonca will administer the oath of office to K-9 Hayron, whose arrival to the ranks of the police department has been much anticipated. The public is invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony, which will take place in the Central Falls City Council Chambers at 5 p.m.

Hayron joined the Central Falls Police Department as a result of over 75 private donations that surpassed the $7,100 necessary to acquire the now two-year-old German shepherd. These efforts were aided in large part by formidable contributions of $500 or more by Edna Poulin, Industrial Motors, Chris Corrigan Moving Inc., Central Falls Police FOP Lodge #2 Union, and the Barrington Police FOP Lodge #18 Union.

"The community truly supports the efforts of our police department and has demonstrated this by fully funding Hayron's acquisition,” stated Mayor James A. Diossa. “Hayron will serve as a great addition to the men and women serving our City.”

Hayron, a very social and even-tempered German shepherd, will assist with public relations efforts, youth and community events, and the effort to continue to build trust with residents. He will also serve as an asset in terms of patrolling, narcotics detection, and search and rescue along with other critical functions. He and his handler, Ofc. Joseph DeCristoforo, completed a rigorous 13-week training program preparing Hayron for his new role in assisting the community.

"It is extremely humbling to see so many charitable individuals and groups invest in the Central Falls Police Department and, more importantly, the safety of our community," stated Police Chief Colonel James J. Mendonca. "Their generous contributions have made Hayron’s much needed addition to the team a reality as he is now set to begin patrolling the streets."

The push for Hayron began when Axel, the former police K-9, was retired due to a medical condition. The push was completely done through the website GoFundMe, thanks in part to Friends of Central Falls Animals, and checks delivered to the police department.

Hayron’s addition builds on the Central Falls Police Department’s approach of connecting with residents and their larger goal of community policing.
