Keep the Nelson family together

The Nelsons need our help. They have already overcome many challenges to become, and remain, the loving family they are now. However, they have more unexpected hurdles to climb: in order to stay together in the US, Tina and Todd need to first legally adopt Michael (despite already being his legal guardians) and then apply for his American green card.

All of this is news to them. They had thought the thousands of dollars already spent on lawyers to organize guardianship and US residence requirements was enough. They had thought they were finished with the threat and stress of being apart, or unable to visit friends and family in Canada. Unfortunately, they aren't yet free and clear.

They have little time to come up with enough money to formally adopt Michael, and then apply for permanent residence. Since Tina and Todd wouldn't even think to ask for help, we're asking for them. Please, if you're able, contribute towards our fundraising goal. Any amount helps. Even if we manage to raise enough money to pay the legal fees, it's a long shot in jumping through all the necessary hoops in time. But we have to try.

Tina, Todd, D'Antaye and Michael: four amazing individuals who together make one fantastic family. Let's keep them together!
