Nevada City Walking Tree Tour Map
In 2008, a walking guide to the Trees of Nevada City was completed. This in depth guide, provided not only a map, but insights on the tree species, exact locations and numbered positioning on the sidewalks throughout town. The map was well recieved and now, after years of use, the printed supply is alll but gone. If you were one of the original sponsors, thank you—this map has been a real asset to Nevada City’s tourism.
Since 2008, new technology allows us to access tree tour materials for smartphones. With the passage of time, the walking path also needs to be re-confirmed and updated, along with securing the exact gps placement.
We envision a tree map that can be accessed through the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce website, along with simple postcards that can be offered at the the Chamber office, much in the same way the maps were. Instead of large map to unfold though, visitors will be able to scan a QR code and go directly to the map, or take a postcard with the QR code to save or mail to a friend. While walking the tour, visitors can just use their smartphone to navigate and easily read about the trees.
Large canopy trees are a significant contributor to greenhouse gas reduction. Nevada City’s beautiful heritage trees are a precious environmental resource as well as a tourism asset. By cultivating appreciation, we help to be certian they are preserved.
The cost for this project is about half of the original fees, plus we can save tress by eliminating the printed map requirement.
We are seeking sponsors for this $4k project. Sponsors contributing $500 or more can have their logo included on the Chamber website designated Walking Tree Tour page as well as the postcards. Every donation is appreciated!
