Adoption has been on the hearts of my husband and I for a very long time. During my childhood, I heard stories of babies, girls in particular who were abandoned in China because of the country's One Child policy and parents' preference for a son. I thought..."How in the world could someone leave their daughter abandoned on a doorstep or even worse in a trash heap?!" Even at a young age, I realized that I could do something one day by adopting a child into my home where she would have a loving family and a stable home.
My husband, Andrew, has his own adoption story, because he was adopted (though domestically). While very little is known about his birth parents, we do know that his birth father was Chinese. Andrew has definitely been a HUGE supporter of adoption. Who knows what life may have been like for him if he wasn't adopted.
What a coincidence you might think? No... believe these "coincidences" were brought together by God. Two individuals both strongly supporting and believing in adoption. One wanting to adopt from a country that largely despises daughters and the other half-Chinese and adopted.
We just met our requirement of having been married for 2 years (where has the time gone already?). We are just a few months shy of being able to officially begin applying. I have to wait until I turn 30 in December. What a neat birthday gift huh? My husband and I have been planning and working toward the adoption process before we can even begin. Setting money aside, researching adoption agencies, getting and staying out of debt.
Adoption from a foreign country is EXPENSIVE, EXPENSIVE, EXPENSIVE. Did I mention expensive?! But it is sooo worth it! Adoption from China can cost anywhere from $20,000-$30,000. My husband and I believe that going into debt to adopt a child is a foolish and dangerous idea. We have been cutting expenses and saving as much as possible, but we still have a long way to go. We hope and pray that with your generous donation, you can help us make a difference in the life of a child.
The money collected will go towards any adoption or child related expenses including a home study, adoption fees, passports/visas, child medical expenses, travel to Asia for pickup. Any leftover funds will be used for child related expenses only. We promise that these funds will NOT be used for personal vacations, clothing, home expenses, food or the like.
Supporters can also help by praying! Adoption can be a VERY long process. We expect this process to take several years with many ups and downs. We covet your prayers immensely!
GoFundMe.com is great at getting the word out to a number of people who can choose to give, but they take a cut of the donations (5% yuck)...please consider sending me an e-mail at [email redacted] and I will send you the address in which you can donate to us directly.
Thanks so much for being a blessing!
