Rachel Needs Our Help

Rachel has spent her adult life building and supporting her local community, whether it be planting secret gardens to beautify the streets around her, through her work in the Riverside and Kensington Market BIAs, through her awesome bars (Avro, Handlebar, and Farside), or just being the first to volunteer and help out, no questions asked. 

She's always been there when people have needed her. Now, she needs us.

Rachel's former business partner turned out to be a professional conman. He racked up a lot of loans before she even met him. The banks think she should be responsible for paying his debts, even though he concealed them from her and even though Rachel dissolved the partnership before all his old debts came to light. It's an infuriating story all around.

The bank wants $72,000 plus about $30K in legal fees. There's an appeal in January where, if she wins, she'll just have to pay the legal fees. That's still a massively devastating financial blow. Anything you can contribute to help soften this blow would be very much appreciated. 

Rachel is my best friend. We've known each other for more than a decade, and I can't sit back and let this happen. We're also throwing a fundraiser on January 12 at Handlebar called HANDLEBASH

Every cent raised will go to her legal fees. If we happen to get anything more than the final costs, it will go to a charity of her choice. If you can't help financially but want to help plan the shindig, please contact us. 

Rachel has always been a role model and beacon of warmth and love in this cold dark world. Let's not let awful people take advantage of that and crush an amazing spirit.
