Help save my daughter's life

Hello everyone and thank you for reading Soumaya's story.  I am Soumaya's mum Sara and would like to give you a brief outline of Soumaya's life to date and the peril our family faces.

Soumaya is currently 13.5 years old and has ongoing respiratory issues, recurrent pneumonia and mold spores that are growing inside her lungs.  With the additional weight issues that she has and her weak lungs this now means that she needs a bi-pap machine to assist her to breath at night when she sleeps.  At birth Soumaya had a Tetralogy of Fallots and had 2 x open heart surgeries to repair her heart and then to repair mistakes the students who performed her 1st surgery made.

Since she was 5mths old her lungs have been weak and hospital admittances are a natural occurrence, at the same time a strain on the families purse strings as the rule of self employment is if you do not work you do not get paid.

Following the death of my father Soumaya started comfort eating and we have not been able to console her as a family unit, then with her father leaving a year later this just increased her whole abandonment issues.  This means that every time she is in hospital we can not leave her, she does not fair well being alone and secretly comfort eats to compensate as she can not deal with her emotions due to her learning difficulties associated to having Down Syndrome.

As a single working parent I work and try my hardest to maintain the roof over our heads for the past seven years, but I just can not manage unfortunately alone.  My greatest fear is that now Soumaya's health is deteriorating due to the family home conditions and she is in danger of being taken into the care system.   As I am self employed every hospital visit, every in-patient admittance and every social services meeting impacts on my ability to provide an income for Soumaya and her two sisters.  I do not receive benefits and there is no Plan B or contingency.

Our main concerns are that Soumaya's health is being impacted by the repairs the family home requires.  We have received quotations from 3 builders and works are in the circa of £15k depending on ongoing deterioration of the works as listed below:

1. Leaks in kitchen - radiator pipes broken behind wall - needs to be replaced, brickwork removed/repaired, concrete floor unstable due constant flooding so needs to be dug up and replaced.
2. Leak in upstairs bathroom - penetrated ceilings and now taken out over head electrics downstairs in house - leak needs to be repaired, ceiling replacement and rewiring of electrics so we have lighting.
3. Replacement staircase, due to age of property many of the treads are broken and dangerous to walk up and down - currently a risk factor daily for Soumaya to gain access to upstairs.
4. Replacement windows/door - windows/glass in doors currently are not BSI standards, lintels are not present so subsidence is now causing them to warp and are not openable so a risk to exit for any internal fires etc and unable to ventilate house.
5. Damp - mold throughout the house needs rectifying and internal decor repairs when mold is controlled.
6.  Bathroom downstairs needs retiling and bath removing with a shower cubicle installing so Soumaya can access bathing with ease as she currently is unable to step in/out of the depth of the bath that we have safely.
7.  Flooring - kitchen flooring to be replaced due to water damage, lounge flooring to be replaced as kitchen leak has penetrated through wall to lounge and is water damaged
8.  Roof repairs - chimney stack rebuild, repair missing tiles - repairs are allowing leaks and mold growth.
9. Replace water damaged furniture - mattresses and sofas need replacing as they are all showing mold spore patches growing which again cause issues with Soumaya's lungs.
10. Kitchen lower units all flood damaged need replacing.
11.  Integrated cooker water damaged wiring from flood overhead where it has penetrated down the wall.

For the past seven years since becoming a single parent I have tried to work hard and save for the repairs but there is always another bill, another repair and another hospital admittance that eats up any savings I have put aside.  I have openly buried my head in the sand and tried to do this alone, but now my last resort is to get the works underway in the next 6 weeks or Soumaya will be removed and placed into care if I do not bring our home up to liveable conditions.

Soumaya really is the hub of our family life, without her I really can't imagine life without her, at the same time I can see that if I do not find a way to make the repairs happen then the care system is the only route as our home is shortening Soumaya's life expectancy rapidly.

I humbly request your help to save my family, Soumaya's best place is with me and her sisters.  Her learning difficulties and abandonment fears will be increased should she be removed from the family home.  I do not expect to receive what we need in full but any help would be a start.

Thank you again for reading our request and for considering helping our family unit.
