My name is Heike Roberson.  In 1998,  I was attacked in my driveway,  with Acid thrown in my face. I was severely disfigured and suffered burns to my face and body.

I survived this ordeal of suffering,  beyond human measure.  I had countless surgeries,  over almost two decades,  of reconstructive surgeries. 

I never could have imagined,  after my daughter's death, that I would face another tragedy.  I was then,  a mother of two small children.  I came to the USA,  as an Army wife.  I suffered 16 years of Domestic Abuse,  in the hands of my ex-husband. 

No one was charged for the attempted murder.   I have peace,  since I know,  I don't have to carry this awful burden. 

I am free of hate. I am free to love and to empower others.  Through my story and my willingness to focus on the good. 



In the last 12 years,  I became involved with the Burn community.   I attended the World Burn Congress (WBC).    It's an annual congress for Burn Survivors.
It  changed my outlook,  in a more positive direction. The best of all,  many new friendships are formed there. The love and support we receive there,  is life changing. 

In the city of Akron,  we have a wonderful Burn Center at Akron Children Hospital.
In connection,  we have ACBC (Aluminium Cans for Burned Children),  which is a nonprofit organization for local Burn Survivors. They enable children and adults with numerous gatherings. 

So over the years,  I have received the blessings,  to be able to attend the World BURN CONGRESS FOR BURN SURVIVORS.  The sponsor is the Phoenix Society for BURN SURVIVORS.  You can go to their website and see all the wonderful services they offer within the Burn community. 

I have many friends from all over the USA and even International ones.  They often have no funding in attending the WBC congress ,  due to the lack of services,  in their own communities or their geographic area.  Often,  when they attend WBC,  they meet for the first time,  another Burn Survivor.
