Get Gwen On Her Feet Again

Donation protected
Our sister, Gwen Eaton, is known in many ways: as a loyal friend, a fantastic kindergarten and 1st  grade teacher, a dedicated volunteer at church, or a fun-loving rider of her bright yellow  2011 Harley Davidson FatBoy.  It's hard to know Gwen and not love her.
On February 07, 2018, her birthday, she and her friend, Judy, spent the day riding their Harleys. They were heading home around 3pm when both ladies hit gravel and went down.  Judy was unhurt, praise God, but Gwen was not so lucky.

As her bike fishtailed off the road, Gwen lost control, going about 30 feet up an embankment before coming back down. It's bit blurry after that, but clearly her leg was badly broken and a Flight for Life helicopter raced her to the closest trauma center.

She broke both the tibia and the fibula bones of the right leg,  which were exposed by a gaping wound on the back of her leg.   She also broke two ribs and broke her sternum. By the grace of God, she suffered NO head trauma.

Since the accident, Gwen has had multiple surgeries and, PRAISE GOD, will not lose her leg. Skilled surgeons inserted a rod to stabilize the broken leg bones and grafted muscle and skin  taken from her thigh to fill the baseball-size chunk missing above her heel and close the wound.

Although she must keep her right leg elevated for  many weeks to come, Gwen was released from the hospital on March 15, more than a month after the accident. She has a long road of recovery ahead of her, including months of healing before being allowed to put weight on her leg. There will be many, many hours of physical therapy and multiple trips to UCSF Medical Center, almost 150 miles away.

Gwen is incredibly grateful for the surgeons, doctors, nurses, and staff at UCSF, but she is thrilled to be home!

What does she need? How can you help?

#1 - Pray for Gwen.  Please remember Gwen in your prayers in the months to come - this is the most powerful form of help that exists! Our God is Almighty, and Gwen knows He will heal her completely. To all the  people who have been praying on Gwen's behalf: THANK YOU! You are such a blessing! Please continue to pray for strength, healing, and patience for Gwen.

#2 - Help if you can. Gwen has a strong and supportive church family and circle of friends to help her in the coming months, and we are SO grateful! She will have to rely on others for nearly everything - groceries & meals, housework, trips to the doctor and physical therapy... the list goes on and on. Gwen is so independant and used to caring for herself - we know it is going to be hard for her to ask for the help she needs.

#3 - Give if you are able.  Gwen has very good medical insurance, but as with any catastrophic accident like this, we are unsure exactly what will be covered. The medical bills are just now beginning to roll in; the helicopter ride alone was over $53,000. She will need in-home care, medical equipment (she had to have a  wheelchair to leave the hospital),  and short-term modifications to her home, just for starters.  We want to provide for her the things that insurance will not cover, and to keep her from having to worry about finances so that she may concentrate on healing. Our financial goal may adjust higher or lower as we determine her need.

#4 - Share this GetGwenOnHerFeet link with your family, friends, and associates. We never know exactly where or when the Holy Spirit will work in the hearts of others, but we are 100% confident that it happens.

We offer our heartfelt thanks for your help and kindness. Please check back often for updates on Gwen's condition, and please, continue to pray for her recovery.
