Dnipro Ukrainian Cultural Center, was designed by Buffalo architects  August Esenwein and James Johnson, and built in 1914.  Originally constructed to be the headquarters of the Fraternal Order of Orioles, the building was purchased by the Ukrainian American community from the City of Buffalo in 1955. It was founded new immigrants to America that had been displaced by World War II.

The new Ukrainian "home" was named "Dnipro" after the largest river in Ukraine, which flows past the capital of Kyiv then south to Odesa, and splashes into the Black Sea.

At Dnipro, the Ukrainian community of Buffalo sought to establish a center where Ukrainians could socialize, maintain their cultural identity, pass their heritage onto their children, and organize political structures that would promote its independence from the USSR, and eventually protect its sovereignty.

Hundreds of life changing events have been hosted at Dnipro; such as weddings, musical concerts, theater, movie recordings, dance recitals, birthday celebrations, christenings, and anniversaries.

Dnipro is the home of the Ukrainian Federal Credit Union, Buffalo branch, which serves its members in Ukrainian, English, Russian and Polish 6 days of the week.

Since 2013, Dnipro has provided "Ridna Shkola" Ukrainian Saturday School with 5 classrooms, and has hosted numerous student performances in the Taras Shevchenko Library, or in the second floor "Velika Zalya" Great Hall.

The Ukrainian American Youth Association "CYM" and women's choir "Mriya" meet at Dnipro reguarly.

Dnipro hosts annual events like "Malanka", a traditional  New Year's ballroom dance by the old (Julian calendar) around January 14th;  and also the Ukrainian Independence Day Festival in August.

In 2014, the building turned 100 years old, and in 2015 Ukrainians celebrated their 60th year of ownership of Dnipro.

The volunteers of Dnipro ask for your help to fund raise for these major projects:

renovation of the Taras Shevchenko library (completed)

Women’s 2nd floor bathroom:
“After” - Picture Set 3 of 3
After 2 months of weekend volunteer help and approximately $1,500 in materials purchases, the Women’s 2nd floor bathroom restoration is finished.

Old peeling wallpaper was fully peeled off.
All walls were steamed, sanded, joint compounded twice, sanded, primed, and painted.
Lime green colors were painted berry blues.
Tremendous plumbing, heating, and electric updates took place.
New chairs, mirrors, and a chandelier were some of the decorations added.

Thank you to all who donated for the materials and thank you to the volunteers who came to help.

We will continue fundraising and working on the entire 2nd floor restoration, starting with kitchen vent hood and appliance updating; then the men’s bathroom remodel; and finally the “Velika Zalya” Great Hall, stage, and balcony restoration.

Thank you for your donation, participation, and patience in our progress.
