Deny Parole To Paula's Killers

Donation protected
In October 1980, Pearl River High School honor student Paula Bohovesky was on her way home from the after-school job at the local library when she was pulled off the street just blocks from home.

Two men took turns beating and stabbing Paula before leaving her to die with her clothes in disarray in a pool of her own blood.

The pair were convicted and sentenced to 25 years to life, making them eligible for parole in 2005. Every two years since then they have make their case for freedom.

And through the hard work and dedication of the Bohovesky Family, a small not-for-profit organization called Petition for Paula and our Pearl River and Rockland neighbors, parole officials have denied their release over and over.

That recurring nightmare – the possibility that they might once again be free to prey on society – will revisit us soon. One faces a parole hearing in May, the other in June. The two have never accepted responsibility for their crime, instead pointing at each other as solely to blame while their stories change from hearing to hearing.

Without a concerted effort now -- as in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017 – the outcome could be different.

Paula’s mother, Lois, still lives in Pearl River and dreads the possibility that she might one day meet one of her daughter’s killers on the street or in a local shop. Even worse, she fears that, if freed, one might kill again. In her eyes, that would render the penalty for killing her daughter meaningless.

In December, an individual convicted in the headline-grabbing S&M killing of a male model in Stony Point in 1985 was granted his freedom after serving 33 years.

The possibility that killers who have served long past their minimum sentence are being viewed differently by parole boards means our efforts are more important than ever in shaping their decision.

You can help keep Paula Bohovesky’s killers behind bars by visiting www.PetitionforPaula.com to add your name to more than 12,000 on a petition asking parole authorities to deny the killers their freedom. You can also donate there to help defray the costs of our efforts.

Please also help by taking part in a fundraising Yoga Class at the Pearl River High School at 7 p.m. on March 12. You can register/reserve at $20 per person at [email redacted] or call [phone redacted].

One hour of gentle Yoga /chair for all levels of ability and ages will  be taught by Margaret Williams-Merten, a Certified Teacher. Please bring your own mat or let us know if you will need one.

Please enter the lowest rear entrance of the school, the Pirates Cove, at 275 E. Central Ave. There will be plenty of parking. Paula was a student at this school at the time of her murder.  All proceeds will be used only to underwrite the cost or our website, www.PetitionForPaula.com, printing & postage. Please share this information in any way you can. Thank you.
