Adopting Clayton

Donation protected
As some of you know, this past March life changed a bit for the Pennington Family!  3 years ago a very good friend of the Pennington's passed away.  In March, her son came to live with them.  When he arrived to their home, they thought it would be a 6 week Adventure with a 15 year old.  Much to their excitement, that plan changed and Clayton has truly become apart of their family.

Through this summer they have walked with him through a very sensitive situation with his Step-dad, whom they have a good relationship with, and ALL have come to AGREE that their home is the best place for Clayton.  Clayton still has a wonderful, thriving relationship with family members.  The goal is to provide a home for Clayton where he can grow, be challenged and loved.  During this journey, Clayton came to the Pennington's and asked if staying here permanently was an option.  After much prayer and many discussions, they knew it was the right thing.  They are overjoyed, but slightly unprepared.

A couple of people have asked how they could help, and honestly the Pennington's continue to shy away from the question. But, the reality is people want to walk this unexpected journey with them, and so we are creating a place to do that.  Adoptions are not cheap, they even still have to have a home study performed and a home inspection (yes just like when you buy a new house) even though he is 16.   They must  obtain 3 different lawyers, court fees, and ultimately adapt their home to fit a teenager (both for the home study and so that Clayton is not living in a room with Teenage Mutant ninja turtles and soccer ball wallpaper).  If their goal is exceeded, the money will go to unforeseen legal expenses that will arise, or to adjust their home to fit their unexpected addition and blessing.

The Pennington's are ready to file the papers ASAP and as soon as they do, things will happen very quickly and the process could be completed with-in 2 to 4 months, pending financial, courts, inspection process, etc.

Clayton is already being referred to as a brother by Shaylee and Wiley, and he is a Pennington.  They cannot imagine their life without him now!  High school football games, drivers ed classes, weekend jobs and homecomings are now their reality and they are thrilled.

The Pennington's are asking 3 things:

1. Please do not share this on facebook out of respect for the situation.  They are aware, but we do not want to blast their business everywhere (we feel strongly it is their story to tell in their own way and time)
2. Please feel free to invite people to this page or send via email, but please ask them of the same privacy of not sharing openly on social media.
3. If you want to know more about their story, please feel free to ask.  They are so very happy to share but are not openly advertising the situation out of respect for others.

More than anything please know that they thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers and any donation you might be able to give.   Thinking back to Christmas last year, this is not exactly what they thought their family would look like this holiday season, but honest to goodness this is amazing and they are beaming like they have a new bundle of joy….technically they do…he just happens to be 16 (and eats all the time)!!!!!!!
