"I believe there is nothing more powerful for people with disabilities than the freedom that only video games can provide. It is an art form that allows us all to run, jump and be whatever we want to be." - Mark Barlet, Founder of AbleGamers
AbleGamers is a non-profit dedicated to making it #SoEveryoneCanGame, no matter what disability they may have. Video games allow individuals with disabilities to experience situations that may be difficult or limited in the real world, provide social networking opportunities to maintain mental and emotional health, and participate in one of the world’s largest pastimes.
Video games are a field-leveler, they allow us to become part of a community, to be someone we're not. We get to play heroes, and villains, and something in between. Games help people in hard times and keep people going when they might not be able to otherwise. They give us a community where we belong. And I believe that everyone should be able to be a part of this community that we all love so much.
AbleGamers not only educates game developers on the importance of includification, but they also bring assistive technology to those who thought they could never game again. They run the largest accessibility review website, UnstoppableGamer, where gamers can go and see which games are accessible for those that are deaf, colorblind, one-handed, and so on.
The AbleGamers Foundation looks to help bring the gaming community together in a positive and inclusive way, and I look forward to being a part of this movement. Thank you to anyone gracious enough to visit this page and learn more about this wonderful organization, and I look forward to us making a difference together #SoEveryoneCanGame.
