My bag of dreams challenge is about helping kids escape poverty by getting a good education. Let's adopt a community of learners by providing each child with a high quality backpack filled with school supplies they need to go to school. With every $20 donation, you help a child take the first step in reaching his/her potential. You will receive a picture of the child you sponsor and each bag you donate will have a tag with your name on it. I plan to personally deliver the bags to the kids in Lucena, Quezon when I visit the Philippines this summer.

In America, many kids go to school with a backpack of some sort. In poor countries like the Philippines, many kids don't have this option and end up carrying their school supplies in plastic bags or with their bare hands. This challenge is about providing kids with an important tool in getting a good education...a backpack with a built in rain hood that securely holds their books and supplies. Let's give these kids hope for a brighter future.  Donate a backpack and change a life - one bag of dreams at a time!

Dear Everyone,

The Bag of Dreams Challenge was a HUGE success. Instead of raising enough money to buy 150 bags, we raised 300 bags! (including the donations from the Philippines) That's 2x our goal!

I woke up this morning thinking about the great experience I had with the Badjao. The smiles of the children and their parents will always be etched in my mind FOREVER. Yesterday was an indescribably phenomenal experience. I didn't mind the long drive. I didn't mind the heat. I didn't mind the sand in my sneakers. I didn't mind that I was tired. All I could think about was what a great time I was having with the Badjao people and how incredibly special the day was.

I want to thank all of the community volunteers and the volunteer teachers that helped in Lucena. You guys were so fun to work with and made my trip fun and special. Thank you for the welcome banners, the gifts, the cakes, and the balloons! I also wanted to thank Juani Caedo, Lucas Lopa, Senator Holy Father Principal Jamike Lopa, Auntie Mayi Lopa, Senator Saint Jim Lopa, Auntie Marivic Silva, and John and Harvey Chua. You guys were a great help and made the trip extra EXTRA fun. Thank you, donors, for giving 300 kids what they need to dream big and study hard. I also want to thank Kuya Josh Mahinay and Doc Anton Lim. You guys inspired and supported me all the way and made the whole project awesome and fun from start to finish! (Doc, I am getting you back for the cake in the face!)

Last but not least, I want to thank the Badjao people. You welcomed me and made me feel super special. It was really because of you that yesterday was unforgettable! It was a blast dancing with you, having cake with you, sailing the boats with you, and reading with you! You guys were so warm and welcoming and I will always remember the happy time we spent together.

And a personal note to my new friend King, a Badjao boy. I hope that with the backpack I gave you, you will study hard and become whatever you dream of. You were so cute and sweet, welcoming and treating me like a long lost sister. I hope that you take your new backpack and wear it with pride. You are a special, smart, fun boy and I will always remember you. And King, remember to never stop believing in yourself.

Love,
Cassie

Dear Everyone,
WE DID IT! We raised over $3000 for my Bag of Dreams Challenge. Thank you for keeping my dream alive! I am super excited to go to Lucena on July 13. Donations are still coming in and I am so excited that we will be able to provide a backpack for more than 150 kids. There are hundreds of other needy school children in Lucena and I am hoping that we will be able to help out a lot more than just the Badjao community there. I am still accepting contributions from anyone who wants to join me in this cause. To my friends and family in the Philippines, thank you for helping me exceed my goal and for your offers of support. This is going to be my best birthday yet! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Love, Cassie

Hello everyone,
I am happy to report that we are 90.67% to our goal. I cannot say thank you enough to all of you who stepped up to the challenge. Here's a picture of the Badjao community, a displaced tribe of "sea gypsies" that we are helping out in Lucena. I will be posting updates and pictures when I deliver the bags on July 13. Stay tuned!
Love, Cassie
