 HAMTRAMCK, MI
Everyone who lives in or has been through Hamtramck recently knows how much help our roads need. The city is doing what they can with the major roads but unfortunately does not have funding to fix a lot of the pot holes in the residential streets. That's where we come in. We have already started our project with money from our own pockets using cold patch on a block of Lumpkin which now looks and feels more like a proper street rather than the surface of the moon. Are you tired of dodging craters on your route? Then consider helping us out, any donation you can make would be appreciated and used solely to fund materials needed for patching.

Want to volunteer your time as well? Awesome, many hands make light work! We are hoping to have another patching session on the weekend of August 8-9th and would love to see your shiny happy faces.

Awesome work this weekend. It's not illegal to work on community improvements if the public agencies can't do that for residents. What is "illegal" is the inability to serve residents who are also taxpayers. I'm sure any attorney would provide pro bono support to the Guerrilla group and I bet experienced "tar-laying experts" would chip in to help. The fact that a cadre of residents is engaged in community participation and civic engagement -- street repairs, thinking about the coming winter (in the summer), and overall quality of life of Ham's residents and their cars -- is commendable. Be careful and keep on mobilizing. Community action one pothole at a time. Much success!

Isn't that supposed to be the city's job? That's why they take your tax money!

The only thing is this is 100% illegal. It sucks that your city does not fix your roads, but you all risk getting into some serious legal issues. Not to mention liability if someone gets hurt or a car is damaged from the tar.

I agree with the other 2 commenters below Mike & Robert, why on earth would you do a GO FUND ME page to raise money to fix something that Tax $$$ are supposed to fix? this is just really insane and all you are doing is allowing the CITY to get away with not fixing the problem. They are using that money $$ else where. You are also setting yourself up for a Lawsuit by doing work on city streets. If anything goes wrong the city can sue every person involved working on that street not to mention if someone is hurt. GO FUND ME should not allow this page. Any person that is giving more $$$ than you have already paid in taxes for this problem is really ignorant or just loves to give their money away.

Some People Here , worried 'bout city going against these citizens have suggested pro bono lawyers may be needed . I think perhaps a truck with boiling tub of hot tar and an adequete amount of feathers may be deterrent enough in nature that lawyers may only be needed to stoke the fire & stir the pot .....

Hope you are also looking into the best and most long lasting of the options- a little R&D is just what most city, county, state, and federal government do not do. Keep on trucking!

A great way to take charge and solve a problem and end government dependence at the same time. Way to go Hamtramck residents uniting as a community.
